I want to see the chart where it combines the two for an effective tax rate. We'd be in the top half for sure.

Hey Louisiana outspends Mississippi almost 5:1 in order to be #49 rather than #50. Think about that.

Yet Tennessee doesn't have an income tax. Their Capital city is thriving and people are flocking there in droves.

frick you Louisiana.

That we have a state income tax is beyond belief.

Yippee! My local sales tax rate will now be 10.4%!

With deductions and rebates applied, that's almost as high as my effective federal income tax rate.

it looks like the sales tax in Louisiana is pretty high...but what you should really be looking at is the total tax rate of the state...most of the states with lower sales tax rates have other taxes that are much higher...Louisiana has some of the lowest property tax and vehicle tag rates I have ever seen...

all states get their tax dollars...some just camouflage it better than others....

How about we compare budgets instead? Louisiana out spends 30 fricking states regardless of size.

You live in Mississippi? 6.1 billion versus 29.1 billion! 2 million more people. Same gap as Tennessee vs Louisiana yet the budget delta is 3 billion instead of 23billion.
