quote:We do have depth. Did you see what Bama was putting on the floor in the front court? Epps and Robinson are good enough to match up with them. Even Bridgewater, while short, would have held his own against their bigs.
shouldn't we have enough depth to beat teams like this?
When was the last time an LSU team had depth?
Back court depth- don't like Quarterman at point? You've got Gray, a quick and speedy guy, and last year's competent starter, Patterson. At 2 guard you have Blakeney backing up Hornsby, and his athleticism should, in theory, be enough to make up for an off-night shooting.

Not really. At least not with Jones as our coach. He gets the least out of guys.

Robinson isn't an SEC player, really. My feelings on Epps are scattered. Dude has some skills, clearly. He can hit the outside shot, he has length, has a little game offensively. Obviously, he's a liability for us defensively, simply because when he's in the game we're going to ask him to defend in the post. Bottom line: under Jones, Epps is pretty wasted. When he's in the game, it means bad things.
As for the guards off the bench, I don't know what happened to make it so where Patterson's minutes are so cut. But I think that's affected his confidence. Gray is Gray. He's been better this year, no question. But he still doesn't give you very much for the most part, if we're being honest.
Then there's TQ. Super talented player, obviously. But when he's bad (which he almost always is), we legitimately have 4 players. I don't care if Simmons is LeBron James, it's hard to win when you don't have a lot of players that can help you.

We lost 2 NBA quality big men last year which is why I think we have no forward depth. Elbert Robinson should be that guy but he just baffles me. How you can lose that much weight while adding muscle, yet not gain any explosiveness makes no sense. I think last night he should have been used on offense. When he was in the game and Jimmy Taylor (#10) was out he was posting up on offense in great position with a guy 2/3s his size yet the guards refused to try and get him the ball. Same story for Simmons when he posts up.

Last night, each team basically had 3 players.
Bama's 3 (Obamashon, Coleman, and Norris) was better then LSU's 3 (BS, CV, KH) in the 2nd half.
BS's poor FT shooting doomed us late. But, TQ's poor play doomed us throughout.
TQ would be on the bench....... I don't care if he pouts. Bad TQ pretty much kills any chance of a win. And last night was BAD.
LSUButt said it, I'd like to see TQ on the pine and let Ben run the point.

IMO, I don't think Elbert posses very good foot speed. He lost weight but he just doesn't have good feet. His weight probably hid that issue before. And his feet kill us on the defensive end. He simply can't keep up with smaller players.

Our entry passes, or lack of, is just mind boggling. We can't get a good pass into the post unless it is coming from Simmons to Victor or Simmons to Victor.

Quarterman, Blakeney, and Hornsby can't enter the ball into the post. It's really bad.

Some of it is bad recruiting. Big men are few and far between because the majority of the population is not 6'8 and above, so many schools go after the good ones. We took chances on guys like Epps and Elbert and it has NOT paid off
I would buy your argument if I would see LSU defenders putting asses in offensive players groins after a shot is put up. I understand the advantage larger players have when it comes to rebounding but rebounding isn't just about going to get the ball. We have the athletes to rebound even when Victor isn't on the floor.

Well Mickey had a MELTDOWN last minute of the NCAA game, otherwise we would have easily been Sweet 16

Jalyn Patterson actually does a great job at it... but he doesn't play anymore. Instead we have two other guards that gave us 8 points. Patterson doesn't score much but does a lot of other things well. I would rather win or loss with him out there right now.

I am HARDLY the king of pumpers. Joe Lunardi still has LSU as a tournament team...we are a bubble team. Sorry that many many people cannot see that, thus spew dumb shite, which I then must correct. I watch basketball nightly, there are so many shitty teams out there that are bubble teams
It is nice to see people so excited we lost, though.

Again no one is excited. We've been doing a lot this year with smoke and mirrors. Our PG productivity is horrific, the perimeter D is terrible, FTs are an issue. I mean teams are capitalizing on our weaknesses and CJJ can't seem to push the right buttons.
That zone D killed any chance of winning the game last night. They were torching us and we stuck with it.

That is one of the biggest weaknesses with Jones. He rides his starters. Once you go to the bench he forgets about you. Blakeney wasn't bad last night, but he sure as heck didn't deserve 36 minutes.
