quote:

"We find Manny Pacquiao's comments abhorrent," the company said in a statement. "Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community."

Based on Pacquiao's comments, a spokesman confirmed that he is no longer on the company's endorsement roster.

Pacquiao has endorsed Nike for a little more than eight years.

"Have you seen any animal having male-to-male or female-to-female relations?" Pacquiao said on a Filipino television station earlier this week. "If you have male-to-male or female-to-female [relationships], then people are worse than animals."

That's not very tolerant of Nike.

These things are always funny to me because they find Manny's comments offensive because they treat LGBT culture like its inferior. They do this to Spanish players who say similar things.

What they fail to realize is that those comments stem from cultural views. So, ironically, these companies are saying cultures like Manny's and Hispanic cultures are the inferior ones.

Sad this happened to him. Hopefully he gets another endorsement deal from another big company. One with more sense.

I find Nike's use of sweatshops abhorrent. I feel #triggered by it.

Nike simply going with the flavor of the day. Nike doesn't have an opinion other than revenues and sales. If polygamy is popular 10 years from now then all the top corporations will be the biggest supporters. All about money.

Good PR = good image = more public trust = more money

it's a simple formula. People are easy to manipulate. Look at MJ shoes for example. Without his logo, it's just a shoe and you would have to pay $150. But if you put the logo on it and say how special it is, and that you and MJ have something in common now... People will line up for them. Some even kill for them. It's fu*king sad.

Basically Nike found an easy way to dump an aging boxer who has looked like shite in his last several fights out of his contract.
