What happened to the yuan? Dafuq is a renminbi?
quote:
I'm pretty sure it's the same thing. Like dollars and bucks.
I was wondering the same thing....so I Googled. Renminbi is the official name of currency in China. Yuan is the base unit.
quote:
The renminbi is the official currency of the People's Republic of China. The name (simplified Chinese: ???; traditional Chinese: ???; pinyin: rénmínbì) literally means "people's currency". The yuan (Chinese: ?/?; pinyin: yuán) (sign: ¥) is the basic unit of the renminbi, but is also used to refer to the Chinese currency generally, especially in international contexts. The distinction between the terms renminbi and yuan is similar to that between sterling and pound, which respectively refer to the British currency and its primary unit.[4] One yuan is subdivided into 10 jiao (Chinese: ?; pinyin: jiao), and a jiao in turn is subdivided into 10 fen (Chinese: ?; pinyin: fen).

quote:What you just described is known as the Fermi Paradox. Not sure if you're familiar with it, but if not, here's a great write up: The Fermi Paradox
And when they turn that bad boy on, they will find.....nothing. Just like us currently. Think about it: if the models of the universe are accurate, that means that over the course of the last billions of years, there should have been millions or even billions of planets in our own galaxy alone that developed like ours, sprung life that developed technology, who set out into the cosmos. So, why aren't they here?
It's long, but here's a few of the explanations put forward for why we haven't observed any other life in the galaxy yet
quote:
Possibility 1) Super-intelligent life could very well have already visited Earth, but before we were here
quote:
Possibility 3) The entire concept of physical colonization is a hilariously backward concept to a more advanced species
quote:
Possibility 6) There’s plenty of activity and noise out there, but our technology is too primitive and we’re listening for the wrong things
quote:
Possibility 9) Higher civilizations are here, all around us. But we’re too primitive to perceive them
quote:
Possibility 10) We’re completely wrong about our reality
They talk about each possibility in more detail, along with the possibility that we are simply the only intelligent species in the universe as you've suggested. It's a long blog entry, but worth the read

You would think there is other intelligent life considering the billions upon billions of stars in the milky way.

The Bible states the stars were created to tell seasons and provide direction.

I personally agree with that. But the article puts forward a solid argument outlining the conditions necessary for us to be the only intelligent life and the implications of it. It's worth investing half an hour to read ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconcheers.gif)
