Nightline Columbine "Special"

Watching this, this kid's mother keeps saying how she missed "signs" from him, including the boys experimenting with a pipe bomb and then a 10-page list of threats found online, and the mother dug through his room when he was out and didn't see anything out of the ordinary.
How would you handle this? Does it ever concern you, both if/when it will happen again? Or rather if a relative could do such a thing?

In vast majority of most cases, kids exude early warning signs of aggression. As for worrying abt if/when it'll happen again somewhere, that does no good. I can't control it so why worry abt it. I keep my revolver in my car at all times even on campus and I carry it on me everywhere I'm legally able to. That's abt all I can do to prepare myself.

These dudes had a weapon collection large enough to outfit a decent militia. There's 0% chance anyone with a half working brain could not notice that if they "dug around." She's full of shite.

Sometimes you don't see what you don't want to.
In hindsight I am sure she wishes now she would have ransacked his room during that year.
Hard to believe a website with all of those threats wasn't enough for the cops to make a move back then. I bet it is enough now.
Wonder how the girl that bought them some of the guns feels now.

Don't forget that he was in trouble with the police, socially withdrawn, etc.
I am not saying any parent could have predicted that the massacre was going to happen, just that she and his father were idiots for giving a dependent "privacy".
If you are a dependent child, you are not mature enough to handle important things like privacy.

Where was the father during all of this?
If he was not in the picture, then he has blood on his hands.

I'm not going to blame any parent for this.
What are parents supposed to do? Take every gun away from every child? Do you ask your nearly adult child,"Are you planning on shooting up your school today, son?"
These guys ( not using their names) didn't have what you call a rap sheet.

It concerns me. I think it probably concerns most parents.
I just hope that when it does happen again, there's a responsible and brave adult who is CC and able to respond in time.

So much 20/20 hindsight and ignorance in this thread. All these woulda-coulda-shouldas by those that know far less about this event than they should.

The parents of the shooters have hell on earth for the rest of their lives.
I read some of the interview with Klebold's mother. Sad.
As fun of a fact that can be had in this thread:
This guy was at Columbine, seriously.

I watched it. Couldn't help but feel sorry for her.

Man, if only those high schoolers were safely and responsibly armed, the Columbine massacre never would've been.

Before I watched 20/20 with Sue Klebold, I read pretty much everything on Columbine info
It is my understanding that it was Eric Harris that had the website, not Dylan Klebold.
It is also my understanding that the weapons were obtained MAYBE 6 months before the massacre. That would have made it October 1998, his senior year of high school. The mom didn't go through his room after his junior year.
I still think it was Harris that had most of the bomb ingredients in his basement bedroom. Obviously his parents didn't invade his privacy either.
