Point being they have a ton of cap space despite having a HOF QB.
Your point is they have a bunch of cap space, but they also have a bunch of people to sign before next year. LEt's see how it evolves over the offseason.
Also, You decided to ignore NE's numbers?
Posted on 2/13/16 at 2:42 pm to Breesus
Yes, and they'll sign them (most) easily. Denver hasn't mortgaged their entire future. They don't have to rework every contract just to sign their draft class.
I have no idea about NE. I know they aren't nearly as jammed up as the Saints.
No one is.

So the bills are worse off than us and the pats are right next to us. You're still wrong. Got it.

I mean what year can you point to that under CSP/Loomis we didn't have money or make a big splash in free agency?
I really can't recall.

You should sue your school for social promotions.
No one on that list is worse off than the Saints.

Which is why we are so screwed now...
Spending ahead is great, but not at the level they've done it.
The only possible way they can get under the cap enough to sign the draft picks is to rework Drew's contract.
Pray he stays healthy...

So you we're only talking about deadmoney. Not cap. Space?
But you said we couldn't sign people and no one was worse than us.
But dead money doesn't preclude you from signing people.
Why can't you just admit you were wrong

they could ignore Brees' contract and still improve, not a lot, but still could.
The issue isn't spending ahead, it is spending ahead and not getting the production you intended to get out of it. A lot of teams spend ahead, they just hit on more free agents than we do, which is unfortunate with the amount of "bigger" names we've gotten over the years since we thought we were a few pieces away.
Since 2012, our biggest cap hell year, we have messed up on a lot more free agents than not...
Guys like Byrd, Spiller, Lofton, Hawthorne, Chamberlain, Bunkley, Browner, Bailey, Goodwin, Grubbs, Lorig, Butler, etc were all lauded at the time, but never produced what we envisioned they produced. Yet we spent a shite ton of money on them.
While a short list like Lewis, Haralson, Kevin Williams, Watson, etc have produced or overproduced their contract.
Money is easily manipulated, but if you intend to manipulate them you better make sure the guys you sign with the room and pushing them back produce or you'll end up like us.

frick Mark Ingram. He hasn't stayed healthy for a full years time since he's been here and what does he have like 3, 100 yard+ games?
After the Eagles playoff game 2 years ago we should have traded him for a 2nd round pick.

Good post, and yes if all the FA's hit and Drew has a handful of rings, everyone's happy.
(like the 49ers in the old days)
Still dead money is a killer.

It's only killer for the past year and upcoming year because of one giant mistake. That mistake alone is not the difference between us and a ring. Just like how Brees' cap hits in recent years wasn't the difference.
More mistakes during the draft and free agents have been our downfall, and that's not even including aging vets that should have been let go long ago.
Does it suck. Yeah. But we're in decent shape this year and next because we don't have a substantial amount of free agents we need to resign

I think what's gonna keep us down and severely limit our FA activity for the next few years is the ant. of dead money we'll eventually have to deal with.
That's why everyone looking at extending Drew as a panacea are ignoring the reality of a 39 y.o. QB.
22M of dead money is an incredible among to overcome.
Yes, the cap will go up, but it goes up for everyone.

It's a one year problem. Galette deal killed us. Other than him, we've managed cap pretty well. Signing long term guys eats our space in future years which aren't bad years for us
Posted on 2/14/16 at 12:16 pm to Chad504boy
Yes, but that's still dollars you can't use. If we (and we will) extend Drew that will push the problem into the future, thus making it more than a one year problem.
Byrd, Galette, Browner have been bad deals. You could argue Spiller, too.
We have absolutely got to hit on guys like Hightower and Breaux to at least be somewhat competitive.

It's hard to when you change the argument every single time someone proves you wrong about something.

Can you show me a team that hits it out the park on every FA acquisition every year?
