Why all the doom and gloom? Budget crisis is the best thing that could happen, will hopefully force real change.

Not sure about the rest of the state but NOLA is popping.

i left in 2012. moved from BR to Houston. met my wife and now i have 2 little girls. best decision i made. Louisiana will always be home, though. if there were good oil and gas jobs in Louisiana, i would come back. but, all the good jobs are in Houston it seems (unless your last name matches the last name of the owner of the company).

Left in 04. Have only lived back home in Louisiana for 4-6 months three times. I miss my family greatly and miss sports/Louisiana October's, but not much else.

Honestly, I have considered moving - not because of the government though. I just like the change of scenery and WEATHER. I moved away every summer in college to experience something new, but I missed out on some family moments that I wish I hadn't. So for now, as long as both of my parents are still here, I will be too.

I've always want to leave. The problem is that I hate cold weather. I have yet to find somewhere else in the US where it's warm, legal to gamble, and legal to drink on the street.

She packed my bags last night, pre-flight
Zero hour, nine A.M.
And I'm gonna be high
As a kite by then
And I think it's gonna be a long, long time
'Til touchdown brings me 'round again to find
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Oh, no no no
I'm a rocket man
Rocket man
Burnin' out his fuse up here alone

I left in the 80's due to the local economy. I wasn't a pussy about it.

I came back when things got a little better.

If you have kids in school, and they are above average to high achievers, Ga might be the State for you.

HOPE Scholarship - have to have a 3.0 and maintain a certain level at your chosen in state school. Every school is different as far as how much one is eligible for per quarter. A student at UGA will get around $3200 per quarter when taking a 15 hour load. If the student does his/ her part they will get around $40k of tuition and books over 4 years.

Zell Miller Scholarship- the premium HOPE funded scholarship for the highest achievers. Much higher qualification level but pays $4600 towards tuition/books per quarter if taking 15 hours. Payout over 4 years has around a $58k value attached.

All lottery funded.

Seems from the posts in this thread that what keeps many people in the state is the fact that our hard headed parents won't get the f out. So we feel like we should stay to be closer.

Yet if you don't live in the same town, you hardly ever see them. If you're a 2 hour drive (nola to Laffy) or 2 hour flight (nola to DC/Florida/many others) what does it matter?

Clicked thread just to see the vote count. Legitimately surprised.
