Question regarding Glock purchase

So, I'm im the market for an all arounder. Nightstand, truck carry (don't feel the need to conceal carry), and range gun.
Went to a local shop and found a nice Gen 2 Glock 19 with only a little wear on muzzle/slide. Serials on barrel/slide match.
The kicker, it's listed for 450 with one mag and original case. That seemed about 50-75 dollars too steep, so I called this AM and asked if the shop would contact the seller (it's a consignment) and see if he'd come down 10% and i'd buy a few boxes of ammo with it. They'd still make a 450-500 sale and I'd feel better about the purchse.
Long story short, seller was firm on 450. I've called around town and most of the NIB Gen 3's are 575ish and Gen 4's are 620-680 (all Gen 3's and 4's are tactical frames ) and don't feel as comfortable in my hand.
I asked the shop to hold the 19 for me until tomorrow morning. So do I over pay for a nice gun, that feels comfortable in my hand and is a harder model to find... or keep shopping around? Thought about shopping around the net for awhile and then doing the FFL and shipping but i feel like that's a bit of a hassle really.
Is 450 fair?

Get a new Gen 4 17 and call it a day.

Don't buy in those places they feed off the stupid

I paid 390 for a brand new in the box fresh from the distributor G23 last month. I would not pay 450 for a used G19 unless you can't find a new one

I sell Glock 19 Gen3s at the shop all day for $499. I wouldn't pay $450 for a gen 2 even if it came with 10 mags.

I don't know where all you guys are finding these awesome Glock prices, but in Charleston, SC this model is the lowest i have seen. Even went by a pawn shop and all their used Gen 4's were <550. Called a few ranges and bigger shops and lowest price on Gen 3 or 4 was 575. I guess every market is different.

Google search what you want for sale.
There are plenty of places cheaper than $450 for a used one. If your friends with a local FFL holder get them to find you one.

That's one of the annoyances, FFL at most places here is 50 bucks and 3-5% value of the gun (most of the ranges and stores). Then there are the $25 guys that run LLCs out of their houses and only have email contacts... I shopped Armslist for awhile but no real value on handguns (prices similar to shops) GunsAmerica and GunBrokers just seems like a headache with shipping and FFL usually not a deal after those costs and not being able to put hands on the gun (if used) first.
Saw a couple sites that sold the Gen 2 Police trade ins a few months ago for 359.00+25.00 shpping and FFL fee. That would put the total right at 409.00 (which is what I tried to get the seller to drop to) but alas...
Guess I'll just look around for a few more weeks, just really wanted to put some lead down range as I haven't shot in a while.

What is the reason behind the 3-5% charge?
Posted on 2/5/16 at 12:29 am to Propagandalf
It's actually 7% and they call it a "sales tax"

I carry a Gen 2 (have for a very long time). I like them because they don't have the finger grooves -- and thus fit my hand better. I have a few (one for carry, one for range work, others as "spares).
You are correct in thinking that $450 is a bit high -- unless it is in very good ("minty") condition (no holster wear, low usage).
One dealer recently sold a batch (8 or 9) of Gen 2's on Gunbroker. They were police trade-ins from Washington, DC PD. All had had some visible holster wear, and most sold for $330-375. BUT one had very light wear marks and sold for $425. During that same time period I saw two other Gen 2's sell on Gunbroker for $425 and $450 -- both were almost mint condition (in photos they looked brand new).

Decided to go back in the AM and give it a thorough examination and i'll decide to luxury over pay or not. The prices really are terrible right now in Charleston for some reason. Hoping if I decided to "pull the trigger" i'll get them to throw in some ammo or maybe cover the tax... something hopefully.

Honestly, save a little more money and get a brand new Gen 4. You will regret the gen 2, and regret paying too much for it even more.
ETA: I see you are shopping at a local place. Those prices are outrageous. As much as I like to keep money local, I would go to Academy or some other big box store.

Money isn't really the issue, it's more are the improvements from 2 to 4 really worth $125 more for Gen 3 or $180 for Gen 4 (in Charleston at least)? I don't care about custom backstraps or light rails. A larger magazine release can be had for $5 bucks. Better stipling? Just seems like frills to sell new guns for more money.

I think it's worth the extra money, but the gen 4 feels way better in my hand than the previous gens. I have a gen 3 with large mag release and it's nothing compared to the gen 4 mag release.
If this is a nightstand/truck gun you plan on using for protection I would have a light on it. Carrying a flashlight in one hand and a gun in the other ties up both your hands. Now you can't even open a door without sacrificing your light or weapon. So a weapon mounted light requires the rail.
If you like the gen 2 feel better than go for it. I just couldn't bring myself to pay that kind of money for it.
