Representatives from 13 schools and two school districts met Monday night in Baton Rouge for a detailed discussion on forming a high school sports league that would rival the Louisiana High School Athletic Association.

The group is expected to meet again in a week.

As the article states, Central and Zachary want in. Also, West Monroe and some Lake Charles publics are interested as well. A member of the Mississippi private school association was contacted by several private and public school officials to discuss that association's transfer rules, eligiblity questions etc in an attempt to establish there own "handbook" in a short time frame.

I'm good with this. The LHSAA is nothing but a bunch of low-rent politicians using kids as currency anyway. frick the LHSAA.

What's going to be real interesting is what will happen in the public school districts that have both select and non-select schools.

I think a new organization would have a large school division and a small school division. Each one probably would have two conferences, each maybe made up of two divisions.

You could have two 32-team divisions. Each one has two conferences - north and south. Both conferences have an east and west division.

Football you play all the teams in your division and three from the other division, to have a 10 game schedule. Basketball/baseball/softball you play each team in your division twice and each team in the other division once.

Sounds like the SPC in Texas. Bunch of privates across the state and a few publcis(maybe just Catholic schools) mixed in.

Works well there.

We leave the LHSAA and take our ticket revenue with us! We'll see how many trophies the LHSAA can afford without ticket revenue from schools like Catholic, Episcopal, Central, and Zachary

Bring back the LISA!

They might need to change the logo. We can't have anything referencing ole miss now they can recruit.

My take on what is happening:

Several MPSA Louisiana schools are having emergency board meetings early next week.

MPSA meeting to discuss Louisiana / Mississippi divisions - football finals will be Louisiana vs. Miss in Superdome.

1A
2A
3A
4A
Select league - any public or private school can play in select league if they choose.

The semi final location is an issue
The Mississippi voucher matter is an issue
Certified sports is an issue - wrestling is a big topic
Student enrollment count for classification is an issue - there may have to be a Class B league for some of the smaller schools.

Soccer championships played at Miss college - trying to get football semifinals at off campus venues - baseball will work with a development / travel league for scheduling, tournaments.

Looks like all old LISA schools, MS MPSA schools some Miss public schools and several LA public schools are on board - most private LA schools on board - waiting in the Catholic league to decide what the want. They will drive the final decisions on the entire matter.

Some of you talk as if you are still in high school when you say "we"

You mean the private school you went to right?

Not every public school is a shite hole like some of the public schools you city folk are use to seeing. Believe that

That said, I hope it happens so schools like Curtis cannot walk away with championships and must actually earn it every single year.
