Don't get too excited. That's an article from March 2015 and it said the goal is to release the original versions before The Force Awakens....which obviously didn't happen.

In that case I have another article for the OP to read:

The goal of the project that has reportedly been under way for a long time is to release A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of Jedi in their complete and original form without the redone special edition SFX. The plan was to release the Trilogy on Blu-ray before Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes out on December 18.

I have always said this is something people claim they want, but the masses would never really throw the money down for this.

People want to complain about wanting the unaltered versions, they don't actually want them.

I realize that this is an article from biblical times, but I will say...

If these DVDs don't have the Fox fanfare at the start of each film, it will suck.

As others have pointed out, this an article from 11 months ago. Also...Disney has no control over the original films as the rights are still owned by Twentieth Century Fox.

I would buy a high quality production of the originals in a heart beat.

Right now im watching some shitty VHS rips downloaded from the 90s.

Upconvert that shite to HD, remaster it, delete all of Lucas's crap and release them.

Especially with the new trilogy out, they'll sell.

Harmy has probably already done a better job than Disney cares to.

However, I applaud this if it ever actually happens.

Get harmy's despecialized versions. He did all three films. As HD as they're going to get for now.

Disney owns distribution rights for all the movies outside of a new hope.

They got themy in 2015 as part of their deal. I believe they get a new hope in 2017.

From the article the OP's article cites.

quote:

EDIT: For some reason this is cycling on social media again. This story was published in August, 2014 and never panned out. Currently, 20th Century Fox still owns the distribution rights to the original cuts of the films, and there may also be contractual obligations from George Lucas's sale of his company that woudl prevent this from happening. That is to say, when this was published, it might not have been nearly as done a deal as sources thought. Sorry!
