I am so glad we traded away Akiem Hicks for a 3rd string TE

ESPN Patriots reporter Mike Reiss considers DT Akiem Hicks to be the team's most valuable free agent. New England acquired Hicks from the Saints back in September in exchange for blocking TE Michael Hoomanawanui, and Hicks ended up being a key rotational lineman. Following his acquisition ahead of Week 5, Hicks graded out as PFF's No. 14 defensive tackle, excelling against the run and as a pass rusher. At 6'5/324 and just turning 26,
How does a blunder like this not cause the firing of your Defensive Line coach? Or the firing of Loomis, who was the one who organized and pulled off this trade?

He wasn't doing anything here......
He was also trouble in the locker room.
Many of the moves were due to "attitude".

Shocker that a young DLineman leaves here and performs better? I mean to be fair NE seems to always get the most of DLineman. It's comes down to technique and ours don't teach these guys at all.
You see OL/DL coaches that excel always working with these linemen on the side after a series. Ours don't.

1. He didn't want to be here.
2. We couldn't afford him next year anyway.
3. We weren't making the playoffs with or without him.
4. Benjamin Watson is a free agent.
5. Josh Hill did not progress much this year.
Look, I don't like it either. But let's not act like the Broncos were offering a Pro Bowler and they took the Patriots' offer instead.

I would put the blame more on the coaches, and Hicks himself.
If Hicks was an issue in the locker room, then I have no problem dealing him. The guy may have wised up from being traded, or he just has better coaches over there. As far as him underachieving here, that can be put on Bill Johnson and/or Rob Ryan.
I'm not a Loomis fan boy, but I have no problem with Loomis for trading Hicks. The trade was pretty much a win/win for both sides, being that we weren't correctly utilizing Hicks, and Hoomanawami played pretty often while with us.
The real problem here, IMO, is that there was an issue with Hicks personally, and his performance on the field dropped after a good sophomore season, rather than him being traded.

Let's not forget how piss poor he performed, got benched, and whined like a little bitch.
A defensive guru and his staff are getting the most out of a player? While an offensive guru got a not used TE and had him contribute a shite ton more. Who would have thunk

Hicks lost about 30 lbs before this past season and they put him at DE. There's your problem.

Again
Hooman is more useful here than in New England.
Hicks is more useful in New England than he was here.

They played him at DT and DE, he failed at both. He has had all the potential in the world, played at two different weights in his career, and still couldn't get the light to go on. Who knows, he might just flake out after getting a decent pay day. I know I wouldn't want us to re-sign him this offseason based on his his last "2 years of potential" has looked.
Look at it this way, they feel comfortable with parting with Hicks since they had Davison.
Hicks: 13 games, 21 tackles (9 solo), 3 sacks, 1 FR, 2 STF. Playing a decent bit of snaps.
Davison: 16 games, 18 tackles (10 solo), 1.5 sacks, 3 STF. As a backup/rotational player

Par for the course in the entire history of the Saints organization.
A player leaves here and then winds up being an instant playmaker/contributor/pro bowler for another team in the hunt for a championship.

Don't act like its just the saints that happens to.
In fact the saints benefited themselves in the past

We played him at the wrong position. He's athletic and all, but he needs to be inside. We stubbornly kept playing him at DE.

We should have let Rob Ryan go, switch schemes in offseason. Made Allen the chief from get go and see what he can do.

So we didn't have him for the rest of the season, so what?
That's the length of his contract.

what would it matter?
he'd still be a free agent?

Hoomanawanui is a UFA as well
It's not like either team was going to benefit past this season. This is an insignificant move either way
