I'm not even sure what to say here...
quote:
Pindak calculates he may have lost up to $10 a day for four days a week over a four-year period because of the sheriff's department; that could add up to more than $8,000.

it really is funny at this point.

Kim Pindak stands outside Chicago's federal courthouse after the first day of testimony in a civil lawsuit involving him and and other panhandlers Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, in Chicago. He and another panhandler brought a suit that alleges they lost up to $10 a day because authorities bar them from begging in Daley Plaza, a popular public square in the city. The trial that started today is a rare instance of jurors being asked to decide the issue of panhandlers' rights.

The case in Chicago will examine whether lax or nonexistent training for sheriff's deputies regarding panhandlers' rights contributed to violations of Pindak's and Phillips' rights.
Pallmeyer already ruled that the men's rights were violated, at least in some instances. Jurors will be asked to come up with a dollar amount for any damages determined.

What a great picture!
There's the bum. -Check.
There's two people laughing at the bum. -Check.
Panhandlers are just the worst.

The bums will always lose!

at the absurdity of this.
On the flip side, this bum is thinking he is doing something good for himself and other panhandlers when, in fact, he is just establishing an income threshold that the government would want to tax.

Can we sue him for the taxes that he never paid on his panhandling wages. You want the view yourself as an independent contractor guess what you have to pay the piper.

So not only is he a panhandler, but he is a lazy panhandler at that. This SOB takes 3 days off each week!

Adele Nicholas, a lawyer for the plaintiffs, told jurors during her opening statement Monday that the case is about the responsibility law enforcement agencies have to adequately train their staffs about citizens' rights. She said money wasn't the point.
"This case is about something bigger," she said. "It's about responsible police practices."
But an attorney defending the sheriff's office, Patrick Russell, told jurors there was never a concerted effort to bar panhandlers from Daley Plaza. At worst, he said, panhandlers like Pindak might have been asked to "move along" from time to time.
He said they were not arrested, detained or prosecuted.
"So I ask you: What are the damages?" he said.
Pretty good timing by the plaintiffs to frame this as a police training issue right now in Chicago.

The judge should be impeached.
The jury should award nothing.
But, here's the kicker...if the jury awards ANYTHING (even a penny), the plaintiff's attorney's fees get paid, in full, by the city - by federal statute.

Someone may have given it to him. A lot of homeless shelters give out clothes that have been donated.

Came to say the same thing.
Look at the coat on this "beggar."
Lived in Chicago for three years. Just wasn't my thing.

Panhandlers rights???
What about the rights of working tax paying citizens to enjoy a public area without some alcoholic beggar bugging them for money? frick these people. This is why you don't give them money, it just encourages them. I cringe every time someone I am with gives them a few bucks.
