re: Would you take a split of this week's basketball games?

Ok plain and simple. Which win helps RPI more.
Forgive me for my ignorance, but which split would be best for us from an RPI standpoint? Is a win against a Top 10 team and a loss against a team that may or may not finish in the Top 50 definitely better than a loss against a Top 10 team and a win against a borderline Top 50 team?
I'd imagine it is better to beat Texas A&M and lose to Alabama considering Alabama is a considerable foe this year, but I pose the question since I would think the tables would be turned if it was Texas A&M and Southern on the schedule this week. In that case I'd expect an A&M loss and a Southern win would be much better than the alternative.

I am not a 100 % sure the RPI would matter who we beat. The formula is a combination of winning percentage and SOS and it's the same regardless of how we go 1-1.
Now from a committee standpoint they care a lot more about good wins than okay losses or even bad losses. So given the choice, definitely want to beat the Aggies

Yes I worded that wrong. Selection Sunday is all that matters. They will put A&M under key wins. Bama will neither be in key wins or losses. Eye contest. It's like beating arky last year on road. Huge boost

Beating A&M is a greater positive than losing to Bama is a negative

I'm betting you'll take whatever they decide to give you.

LSU has always struggled in Tuscaloosa. I can't remember the last time we won there, and you can go even way, way back to 1970....even with Pete Maravich producing a record 69 points, the Tigers came up short to a Bama club which won only 5 games that year

Split this week and LSU will probably be enjoying a top 4 overall seed in the NIT. Almost every game is a must win at this point. LSU has had too many bad losses this season. 12-4 plus a win or 2 in the SEC Tourney is needed to make the Dance. Yeah these aren't easy games this week, but let's not give this team and coaching staff a free pass. LSU has a top 5-10 team talent wise in the entire nation. They should win both games.

that makes no sense lol. We would rather beat A&M
A win at A&M helps much more than a loss at Bama hurts. In this hypothetical if LSU can only go 1-1, then the one win HAS to be at A&M

Absolutely. Home teams are winning 72% of the time in the SEC games so far. That makes the SEC 4th toughest conference to win on the road. It's never easy to win on the road. I'd obviously rather a win at aTm, but I'd take either.

Yep and knowing this team and history under CJJ, we'll do it the unconventional way...beat A&M and lose to Bama.

I love when people try and give in depth opinions on what LSU's record needs to be, but then they don't even know how many conference games are played. This is like the fourth year of an 18 game SEC schedule, how do people still not know this?

And Alabama is not even remotely good.
We need to break the curse. They haven't been good since the last time we won at Coleman--2004--but we find a way to lose there anyway.

Unrealistic expectations?? I couldn't disagree more. The sad thing is that we are discussing if it's ok to go 1-1 over this week. LSU should be dominating people and instead our coach handicaps us down.

I could've sworn we had won there sometime semi recently, but you're right, 2004 was the last time. I know we haven't played there every season since then but that is still amazing to me.
I feel like the committee isn't as hard on a team if it loses on the road than if it were to lose at home, especially to a bad team. I feel like we go 1-1 this week and Lunardi moves us into the field, especially if that win is A&M. Lot to gain with road games. 2-0 this week and we are firmly in the field for now with a lot of opportunity to come down the stretch.

We aren't discussing that. It would be ok to split this week--that's not in question. Winning on the road in college basketball is a tough task.

If we beat A&M and then lose to Bama the retards/haters will be out in full force.
Posted on 1/19/16 at 9:22 am to therick711
I agree it's tough to win on the road, but it should not be hard to beat Houston, NC State, Wake Forest, etc...at the beginning of the season. If we win the games that we were supposed to, then LSU has only 2 or 3 losses instead of a handful.

LSU is in a position where they have to beat the teams they're suppose to beat in order to avoid another "bad" loss. They also have the beat the teams like A&M in order to establish themselves with the tourney committee.
The margin for additional losses is very small.

I bet you have no idea that Texas A&M is more talented than we are. Yes we have Ben Simmons, but A&M had a better rated recruiting class than we did. And they returned there whole team from last year. But yet you still think we should dominate them? On the road? GTFO you stupid frick.
