The Mexican place at the motel is nothing special but its probably your best bet. There's a drive-thru daq joint at the intersection of 425 and Cherry Ridge that serves great food and has live music outside during the warmer months. No idea if they're serving food in January but its called Harold's. Give 'em a call and see.

Used to be a barbecue place downtown that was ok.

Sounds like a way to tell someone off when finishing an angry conversation.

Does Bastrop still smell like a huge giant fart?

I recommend the Fish House in Sterlington, 10 miles south of Bastrop on US 165. Good fried catfish, shrimp, oysters, French fries. Decent cole slaw and jambalaya.

My grandparents lived in Bastrop and my grandfather was the lead electrician at the old mill. We spent many summer days there and hated the smell. My grandfather said it smelled like "bacon and eggs"... because what produced that smell is what put bacon and eggs on the table.

There's a Huddle House that's pretty decent. I would just drive to Monroe like others have said. Try Enochs Irish Pub & Cafe on Louisville Ave. Great Burgers and cold beer. Below is a link to their webpage.

This depressing thread makes me glad I've never been to Bastrop
