Yeah, I don't see why a permit is necessary unless CT State law requires a permit to open carry.
When you say "open carry" today, most people assume you mean being able to carry a pistol openly without a permit.
If CT law only allows you to open carry with a permit, then the guy should have showed the officer his permit.
I don't claim to be a gun law guru, so whatever.

Demands to show permit when stopped The mere fact that you are carrying a firearm unconcealed does not meet the Reasonable Articulable Suspicion (RAS) necessary to detain an individual. Therefore, there is no statutory requirement for a person to provide a pistol permit when they are not otherwise suspected of a crime. Citizens exercising this right should be aware that they are likely to face harrassment, threats and even unlawful arrest by police officers if they refuse to show their permit on demand by police officers. This has occurred previously, and it was ruled that the officer lacked RAS to stop the defendant.

like I say in all these threads
let some thug or middle eastern guy walk into a store where you are with an open carry and see how quick you are to wish the police would harass them

That's my problem with open carry. It is going to make it harder for officers to do their jobs.

That fat frick is disgusting. I had a chuckle at the end when he said have a good day DICKHEADS.
The dude is right though, he doesn't have to give them anything just because they asked. If a cop walked up to me at a restaurant and asked me for ID I would tel him to kick rocks just like this dude did.

Nope.
quote:
State police Training Bulletin No. 2013-01 spells it out: “In Connecticut, there is NO state statute which makes it illegal for someone with a valid pistol permit to openly carry a pistol in plain view UNLESS this ‘open carry’ creates a ‘Breach of Peace’ situation” or the person is “intoxicated or using drugs.”
Furthermore, “There is NO permit required to openly carry a rifle/long gun,” the bulletin states. Vance said that’s true whether it’s loaded or unloaded. But he said it depends on the context. And again, the breach-of-peace qualification applies.
But that "breach of peace" is where they're gonna frick you... I'm guessing that's left up to the discretion of the police.
ETA - just realized the guy was carrying a pistol... so he would be required to have a permit.

Isn't it kinda stupid to open carry? If you're out and about and there really is someone up to no good, he's going to take you out first before you even know what hit you. In this case it doesn't pay to advertise.

I got a real problem with this. Perhaps if they got a letter in the mail that said they were being drafted into the police department, then maybe I could justify making their job easier. However, they actively went looking for this job so frick them. If their job is hard, that is their problem, not mine.
Open carry is legal in some places. This would all vanish into thin air if the police department instructed their officers that open carry is legal and if someone open carrying doesn't want to have a chat that is perfectly legal. In stead the cops know it's legal but don't like that it's legal so they take it upon themselves to be a pain in the arse to discourage open carry.
Dumb. Those cops are dumb.

Not sure if they are one in the same, but who wants to open carry. I would want to conceal carry. I would want to fly under the radar.
