Remember watching him play on the freshman team - had good turnouts for those games. He was something to watch.

The Ruston Rifle deserves it for sure. :-)

he is the reason I'm a LSU fan. Loved him as a COLT when I was a kid in and found out about his career at LSU and therefore was turned into a Tiger fan since

Great guy and an awesome QB. Sat next to him on a plane from Dallas to BR over 4 decades ago and he asked me if I needed a ride home. Unfortunately my boyfriend was waiting for me at the airport.

I talked to a former WR that played with Bert. He said it hurt his hands to catch Bert's passes. Said you could hear them coming at you in practice when he ran his routes.

The previous LSU inductees are end Gus Tinsley (in the class of 1956), end Ken Kavanaugh Jr. (1963), halfback Abe Mickal (1967), quarterback G.E. "Doc" Fenton (1971), defensive back Tommy Casanova (1995), halfback Billy Cannon (2008), halfback Jerry Stovall (2010) and Charles Alexander (2012).
I'm surprised Y.A. Tittle isnt on this list.

Yikes, Jordy H just said on his show that he saw Bert Jones throw a football from the goal line into the opposite stands. Lol. He added, "about 130 yards, I'm not exaggerating".
Now, I remember Jones and he certainly had a gun but, really strong arm QBs throw it 70 to 80 yards in the air. Why would Jordy say such a thing and be so adamant about it? I think it happened when he was young and got confused but still, terrible idea to share that story. Almost delusional.

About damned time. Bert was a god QB who was misused, AND remains a great person. Trust me, if he had it to do over, he would have went somewhere other than LSU. Mac and him seemed to have issues from the time he came in to finish the Orange Bowl as a sub for Buddy Lee who was injured.
He could have been better utilized, and granted, that was a lot of pressure to put on a sophomore in such a major game. He really did not get the starting job until Notre Dame came to town.
