I follow the economy but am not an expert. What do the recent economic trends mean for the future. I wanted to start looking for a better job, but am worried about the economy.

No - and if we are, 2008 taught you how to capitalize on a downswing.

its always possible, its been a few years since we have been in one. So its a risk. the thing is we didn't have much growth when we werent in one. You could argue (technically wrong) that we never left the last recession.
the thing is job growth appears to still be chugging along. In my industry, job growth is amazing. We have a shortage of workers, and salaries are growing 10%+ a year.
But anytime you see a major economic power like china having the problems they are having, it could cause problems for us. The thing is that china sells more to us than we do to them. So a recession there is going to be less problematic than say canada or mexico. Or even the problems we had in the EU.

The US has never entered a recession because of an oil crash. Bear markets are born in euphoria not fear.

IMO it will head that way (if it isn't already) in the next 18 months. Specific, I know...

Yes, we will be there by morning. What can you sell me?

It's not going to be like 08 but it is going to get interesting.
China has a nice cash reserve and because the govt runs the economy they can devalue their currency to ease the pain.
As mentioned lots of buying opportunity in 16.

I don't foresee another recession, but I do think we are entering a bear market for a while. Like someone else said, good buying opportunities in 2016, but the bottom's not going to fall out or anything.

I don't think we're headed for a recession this year. This market downturn will lead to new market all time highs.
