The class she has coming in next year isn't that great either

It's not horrible....13th best forward and 25th best point guard, plus a 6'5 kid from Canada. And LSU will have the transfers who sat out this year ready for next year.

I am not a Fargas apologist by any means and I am not taking sides at all, but the rational facts are these, and I have said it before: She isn't going anywhere after this season. She will get next year to try to figure it out. There will be enough talent here next year to get back to the NCAA's. Moncrief and Ayana Mitchell will be healthy and Chloe Jackson and Tatum Neubert will be eligible. That should be 4 starters right there. The players who are getting minutes this year will return to their regularly scheduled spots on the bench and will be role players like they were supposed to be in the first place. I don't think anyone on the current active roster starts next year, with the possible exception of Rina Hill, who will be a senior point guard.

It is hard to take down a coach who has been to the NCAA tournament all 4 of her previous years and who has lost the 3 best players on the team this year, plus a key post reserve.

I am not saying that the recruiting has been great and I am not saying that I totally agree with relying on so many transfers. I am just saying that she won't get axed this year and will get next year to try to rebuild the team's record and the fanbase with what should be a much more talented team that what we see right now.

I have also seen the argument that "Caldwell has totally demolished what Sue and Pokey built". Um, no...she didn't inherit what they built....she inherited what Van Chancellor left her, which was a decent program, but not an elite one. It has been a 2-stage demolition....

I am not arguing for or against....and I am not happy with where the program is, but I think the coach gets next year based on the talent that will be here, and no NCAA = new coach in 2017.

This record is going to be UGLY. I don't think next year's a given.

We need to get one of Geno's assistants at UCONN. Agreed Nikki needs to go.

Hell no. His assistants never do anything as head coaches because they're program is on cruise control.

She won't get fired, but not because Raygiene will be back or because of her record in the NCAA playoffs. It will be because of her contract. They won't spend the money on WBB to buy her out even one year. They're stockpiling for football. She's somewhat safe for that reason alone.

What's the remaining time on her contract, and what's her buyout? I do remember when she was hired, she was paid an inordinately high amount of money.

Didn't they just extend her contract? Whoever comes up with contracts at LSU is a complete moron....

I think it's through 2017. Base was around $500,000 but I am not sure of the buyout. They extended it before the beginning of last season if I recall correctly.

Just curious, I know women's b-ball isn't a money maker but do they get any decent home crowds at all being that they're so shitty?

We went to four final-fours in a row and now we are here. Hire Kim Mulkey now.

She will get one more year.
Has a decent class coming in and with injuries and Ballard leaving this was shaping up to be a down year.
As far as I'm concerned I don't want Alleva making any more hires for LSU. Let the new AD tackle that. Alleva has done enough behind the scenes to piss off a lot of coaches both assistant and head.

Its apparent there is a steady decline.
Year 1 23-11
Year 2 22-12
Year 3 21-13
Year 4 17-14

We are currently 6-8 about to go into the roughest part of the schedule. The final record will be quite ugly this year.

The issue is, recruiting has not gotten better at all, only worse. Every other game, someone is suspended. Every year we have players transferring, that is a MAJOR red flag. Without doubt the worst player management I have ever seen.

Yes she had injuries, but Moncrief is the only SEC caliber player on this team. No offense to her, but she struggled badly when she was the only one relied on. I have seen some of the practices and the transfers aren't bad but won't be miracle workers next season I can assure you.

Personally, I think its time to just move on. I don't see the point of digging the program into a deeper hole. Alleva gives me zero confidence he can fix some of these issues with our athletic programs. I don't fault Alleva for the hire or throwing big money for what appeared to be a 'good hire'. It didn't pan out, so just move on.

According to the minutes of the Board of Supervisors meeting on September 11, 2014, her base salary is $350,000 and was extended to June 30th, 2019.
Go to Page 2009

Her contract from July 15, 2011 states the following:
Base Salary - $350,000
Supplemental Salary (radio/tv/internet appearances) - $350,000
Academic Reward - $50,000
SEC Champion - $50,000
SEC Tournament Champion - $50,000
NCAA Appearance - $50,000
Sweet 16 - $50,000
Final 4 - $50,00
Nation Champion - $100,000
SEC Coach of the Year - $50,000
National Coach of the Year - $100,000

Buyout is $1,000,000 after 1st year and slides down each year to $250,000 the 5th year. TAF contributed $170,000 to buyout of her UCLA contract.

As usual, you hit the nail on the head here.

Those of us who've followed the program for over ten years are not happy with the current situation. Recruiting has been bad and this constant removing and suspending of players, is a concern. However, I do think she's going to get at least another season to turn it around. At the beginning of this season, once we knew there'd be no Ballard and that Moncrief was hurt, I knew this team would win at best ten games. So, I'm not all that upset about this season thus far. This is a "throw away" year. There's not enough talent on the current roster to be competitive in the SEC............and we know it. So, now everything should be pointing towards next season. The concern, I guess, would be if the team ends up somewhere in the neighborhood of 8-20 or 9-21, would the AD be patient and let her turn it around, or let her go and bring in somebody else? I'm good either way at this point. But that class we have coming in next year is not one with any ESPN 100 type players on it. So, there's going to have to be some MAJOR development going on for the next couple of seasons.

Our athletic administration has made it clear that WBB is a priority at LSU. So, I'm gonna try and be patient that things are going to work out. Right now, we're gonna take our lumps though...........................

So do you think we should be satisfied with a "throw away year?" I don't think we should be.

Van was average at best coach but he did leave the cup board full of talent, to Nikk's credit, molded and developed well. The talent she inherited was worthy of a NCAA tourney type talent. She coached them well and pretty far, to sweet sixteens. Her first two seasons were what was left of the last coach, now last year and this year, we are seeing everything that she has built and what she has built is a bottom of the pack SEC team.

I think the question is, do you want to waste another year, with what should be without doubt, some improvement. I am somewhat afraid, a little improvement means they will still keep her after next season. No matter how good she coaches, it will NEVER be good enough to be competitive nationally. In WBB, talent matters a lot.

I am not saying you should fire her after this season, I personally don't see any optimism going forward.

So its decision time, do you make a change after this season, try to turn the program around quicker. Or do you give the staff another season and still get mediocre results, possibly leaving the program in a deeper hole.
