$25 million goes into a couple of different interest-bearing checking and money market accounts. That's my play money...what I would use to pay for a home, every day expenses, and open or invest in small business. The rest would be split up between a couple of mutual and private equity funds as well as land purchases. This is for future generations.

I'd take everything but 12 million and give the shite out of it away. 2 million to set me up now and 10 to sit on till I retire. I drive up and down I35 all the time and see powerball signs and think about this in the car on a regular basis.
My HS, my Alma mater (Angelo State,) TAMU, heck, I'll give LSU money because they're my favorite rival, every pro life organization in my area, Salvation Army, homeless organizations in my area, fund missionaries from my church, I'd buy my boss out of his portion of the business and keep doing what I'm doing but allow us to start growing more. this would let me give him the finger when he makes me travel too much.
ETA: I'd buy my fishing kayak my wife won't let me get. If she gives me hell, I'm getting a new wife too. That may significantly reduce my winnings though.

Giving it away doesn't seem that wasteful to me.
I mean... I guess it's wasteful in some eyes, but it'd do a lot better for the world than most of the lottery winners you read about.
