who the hell is going to wait and find out if it is a toy or not? Dumbass shouldnt have been pointing a gun at people. Guess he learned a valuable lesson that day. Good jon by the cops.
You probably think you're a small government conservative.

That was not relayed to the responding unit.
That sounds like a failure of the police system.

They can't wait to see if the paintball is orange or white, or a bullet.
What happens if they don't park 3 feet from the perp? Is it possible that they could have pulled up 20 yards away, use the cruiser as a shield, and tell the perp to drop the weapon?
Their lies were proper procedure; their actions were just dumb. The idiot driving the car caused this incident to occur in this manner. With better training, and higher qualified people becoming officers, this situation could have ended with a 12yo learning a great lesson. Instead of a good lesson, this 12yo lost his life.
How about we quit giving guns to the same idiots that we wouldn't let borrow our boats or power tools.

He obviously passed test in order to be reissued his handgun privileges. Too bad the kid didn't pass common sense or wasn't properly taught by his "parents" regarding any type of gun real or not. Maybe it's all the parents fault. Regardless, the kid or someone removed to orange toy indicator from the gun to make it look real and then stupid decided to draw attention in a bad way and knew it. Not necessarily justifying to be shot but at a minimum to have police called out for his intentional stupid actions. Until you put your life on the line as a police officer, you likely will continue to sit back and take up for stupidity the rest of your life. Don't worry you are not alone. Many more like you being bred every day.

Kids have been playing with realistic looking toy guns for decades. Even pointing them at people.
Even WHITE people. Shocking, I know

He was considered unfit for duty by his previous department.

Yep. I had toy guns and was taught by my parents not to aim it at my siblings. Never removed the orange safety plastic either. Hell I even had some before the without the orange and still didn't point at people and I was only 5 or 6 years old. This kid knew better at his age, it's just a shame I knew even moreso even at age 6.

There's more video than just the cop pulling up and shooting him. Nowhere in the video does he point the gun or threaten anyone. There's one point where he shows the gun to an older guy who just laughs and keeps walking. That was probably the guy that was having a beer and waiting on the bus that called it in.

Right. Apologists have dreamed up a whole scenario where this kid was just a punk walking around threatening people with this fake gun, and pulled it on the officer.
None of it is rooted in fact.

Yep. Look at what his superiors thought about his qualifications.
- could not follow SIMPLE directions...check
- could not communicate clear thoughts...check
- handgun performance was DISMAL...check
SO, LETS GIVE THIS RETARD A frickING GUN AND A JOB WHERE HE CAN DESTROY PEOPLE'S LIVES.
The same guy that 50% of fast food workers could destroy on a test of general competency gets a gun and a frick ton of responsibility. It's a joke.

Too bad the one time he hit his target -- from a moving vehicle no less -- resulted in the death of an innocent.
Why couldn't he have missed like every other time?

Read page 2 and 3, this was discussed. You don't know if they approached b/c they were in b/t bystanders or not.

I hope I don't see you complain about 90K cops on the road, b/c this is what you're advocating. State level Police and Feds have higher standards, but they pay a HELL of a lot more than most. However, their numbers pale in comparison to local levels.

Right. He's disqualified by podunk Independence, but hired by Cleveland.

I doubt they let officers hang their targets 6 inches away when they are qualifying.

You're right. I don't know.
However, I do know that their chosen placement was the stupidest fricking place possible. I also know that the concrete area, which I can see on the video, would have allowed them to be "in between" these same possible citizens and the gunman.

Their story. The one where they told the gunman, THREE TIMES, to drop his weapon, etc.

I cannot disagree with this point. The gunman was the cause, but he didn't cause ALL of their actions.
An IQ of 80 helped a bit.

Not 90k, but the quality of candidates will go up with an increase in pay. Also, changing the environment of our local departments would help a lot. The departments run off a lot of good candidates who cannot deal with the MMA gym type alpha bullshite that is necessary to make a dipshit feel better about his monthly $2100 take home a month. Since these normal adults cannot deal with a bunch of men that act like 19yo frat boys, they decide that the bullshite isn't worth the shitty pay.

They claimed they warned the kid multiple times before they shot. If you watch the video, this is impossible.

Secret Service agents make about 60K. Can we get their washouts?

Our local PD starts at more than that.
