Who else on the lakers can contribute more than Kobe?
uhh, he's been one of the worst players in the NBA, pick a Laker, odds are he's better than Kobe right now. Clarkson, Russell, Randle, those names ring a bell?

He's a legend let him have his moment

Yea, let's waste a year of developing young talent so the legend can have his moment to shoot 34% from the field, brilliant idea!!!

Was Kobe supposed to turn the contract offer down?

Doesn't really matter. The odds look good they'll keep their first round pick, and Kobe's salary comes off the books after this season, plus the cap goes up significantly. There's a chance the Lakers get a high pick AND push to land a big free agent.

Meh. You're completely ignoring the financial aspect of things.

if he had taken less $$$ and been willing to let somebody else be the man the Lakers might still be worth a shite.

instead, in true Kobe fashion, he got his.

If I'm Laker management, even with another solid piece or two......this is nowhere near a contender. Give Kobe his farewell money, keep the seats filled because it's Kobe, tank to get another lottery pick, pick up a big free agent and a couple of solid pieces next year or the year after......and you're right back in the thick of things.

Hell, if Kobe plays well the rest of the year, don't be surprised to see them sign him for a 1 year deal at a ridiculous value if they can't get a huge free agent this year.

In the words of Jalen Rose when referring to Laker management's take on the season "keep shootin' Kobe"
