Considering we've got a ton of S. Louisiana peeps on this board, I think most do some sort of gumbo or Cajun dish on Christmas Eve or even for Christmas, but like others have said....I've never heard of tamales being some kind of Christmas tradition.

Check out Mamita's on Facebook... he's the tamale truck guy parked all over metro NOLA.

Guillory's on Derbigny in Metairie sells tamales.

Are "tamales" a keyword that refers to "beers"?

For many Mexican families tamales are a Christmas tradition(at least out in AZ it is). They take a long time to make so families will make a day out of it and make huge batches. Some of my Mexican friends and coworkers give out tamales to friends/family/coworkers like some give out homemade Christmas cookies.

Speaking of tamales, I have a recipe and I've made them before with ground meat.

Anyone know of a good recipe for ground pork tamales? I don't know if the quantity would be the same with a different kind of filling.

They could start it here as well during that time....I just know the times I was given tamales from coworkers/friends...it was around Christmas time.

I didn't get any tamales this year though

You're crazy. There is no Manuel's Hot Tamales and hasn't been since Katrina.
