So, if we could magically replace Miles with our dream coach - if it were Bill Bellimeyersabanichik making up our game plan for a high-powered passing team with a crappy run defense, what would the winning strategy be?

I think he would ground & pound, run the ball, long time-consuming drives, control the clock and TOP, shorten the game, keep their offense off the field....oh shite. Nevermind.

So if TexasTech is tailor-made for exactly the kind of game plan we've grown to hate, and it's successful and we beat the crap out of them running it, is this board pissed and has a melt-down, or are we happy we won?

you must be lost.

anyways...we beat Tech easily. We run the ball 65 times using RB by committee....pass twice....win by 4 TDs.....and the rant explodes with anger

I actually think TT will be ready to stop the run (or defend it better than their stats show). They play pass happy teams that spread the defense to run against them...we will line up in tight formations inviting them to stack the box. It will probably be an ugly game but I just don't see us running for 400 yards

On first glance, it's a battle of opposites between the ground-oriented Tigers led by Leonard Fournette and the pass-happy Red Raiders of quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The Tigers are averaging 245.9 yards rushing, 10th in the nation, against Tech which allows 271.8, second to last among 128 teams.

On the other hand, the Raiders can chuck it around, averaging 389.7 passing yards per game.

LSU should be able to run the ball at will, and while Texas Tech's offense will make enough plays to put some points on the board, I don't see them being able to score consistently enough to keep up with the LSU ground attack that won't turn the ball over.

But Miles will blow it.

I think everyone knows that we can run through Texas Tech like soup through a fork.

It's funny you say "tailor-made". That means the idea, the plan, must conform with the circumstances. It means not trying to make a 44L fit on a guy who needs a 40R.

If running the ball down their throat is the key to win, then do that.

Know your opponents weaknesses, know their strengths. Play the game of "matchups". Every defense has a flaw. No defense is perfect.

And it's this type of mindset Les Miles doesn't have.

frick you for making me say all that.

Game plan for this one should be easy. The question is we will be ready to play? The second biggest question is if TT loads the box, do we have a plan for that?

Pre 2011, I would say we win this thing by 2 TD's, but Bowl prep and performance has dropped considerably in the last four years.

I honestly believe it really won't matter if they load the box. They look so terrible.

You are probably right...but I have seen bad teams have some success doing this...of course we wear them down.

So did Eastern Michigan, and we had a one score lead entering the 4th quarter against them. Texas Tech's offense will be far greater than Eastern Michigan's, but I have to think that we will have a little better focus on this game. It should be interesting.

Everyone wants to see harris throw but LSU needs to run the ball mainly to keep Texas Tech off the field on offense.

We rushed for 391 yards against Eastern Michigan. We will more than likely rush for more against Texas Tech.

They will score on us but that defense is going to be so gassed by the second quarter.

One thing scares me about this game. Miles' typical philosophy is perfect for this type of team. Control the clock, ground and pound, keep their offense off the field. However, all I have been hearing is how he is changing the offense and transitioning to more of a multiple game. I just hope the change doesn't come back to bite us and we are subject to a lot of three and outs or quick positions.

I'm as excited as the next guy to see the offense get a little more "creative". Just hope he doesn't stray too far from his old school ways in this game.

Miles bashing is what we do best. If he was to show his willingness to change with today's era of football by getting away from 1968 Michigan I-Formation the rant and others would back off of him. He brought all of this on his own.

this is the big issue. Unfortunately, I think the answer is no.

I don't think we give a crap about this bowl game. We went from 7-0 and ranked no. 2 to this shite bowl against a lower-level team.

We will be lethargic and can easily lose if we don't manage to find some energy.

surely you don't expect Miles to now suddenly change our offense, do you? If he hasn't done it the last couple years, he isn't doing it this month before a bowl game against a team with a horrible run defense.

Expect more of the same, and next year too.

No I don't, but I do think we will see more runs out of spread sets and less use of the fullback. I still think the balance will be about 65/35 run to pass. At least I hope...with CLM, you never know.
