Eh, no skin off our backs. Just don't get it from someone who says they can do it in an afternoon, or over dinner, or any BS like that. I had a few friends tell me they had that offered and it scares the sh!t out of me. When I started to explain the legalities they had to know, and how much they "knew" that was wrong, they were lucky enough to be swayed from that awful path.

I agree but at the distances they require, they aren't really testing your marksmanship much. I usually have students bring 50 rounds so that after the 36 round qualification I can do more stuff with them. The extra 14 rounds doesn't do a ton but the CC course isn't really designed as a shooting course. It's merely covering the basics. The practicing regularly and taking an actual defensive course is up to the person.

Agreed. It's our job as quality instructors to be thorough. I straight copied and pasted the lethal defense law statutes straight from LSP.org and then I tell students of some cases that happened around the area (George Temple in Central in '05, incident on Plank Rd gas station recently, etc.) and tell them what I think the best course of action was. I make sure that they see and read all the laws as they are written straight from LSP's site.

Any time I have an ounce of doubt about my classes, I'll catch wind of someone who went to a subpar class. Even though I'm NRA Basic Pistol certified, that curriculum doesn't cover the important stuff. I cover much more material than that and I think it's important to.

Are you in the Facebook LA CHP Instructors group? I may have seen you around in there before. My initials are BA.
