This is a Tommy Bowden hire. He will win quickly and be gone.
He'd be 56 years old before coaching a down as Tulane's HC. Say he has a great 3 year run - do you think programs that can offer significantly more money than Tulane would be knocking his door down? Not saying it couldn't happen, but it's not as though he's 40 years old...

A triple-option team wins 7-8 games a year. That means consecutive bowl games, and that's HUGE.
Tulane needs to go through post-Dickson/Cowen rehab. A good defense + decent option attack is an EXCELLENT starting point.
When is the last time that Tulane has been consistently decent?

Once coaches see they can succeed at Tulane they know it is a good bridge to the next higher paying job and that is a good thing.
The problem with that is the last time that happened at Tulane, the school got all butthurt about Bowden leaving so early and passed over Rich Rodriguez to give the job to Chris Scelfo because he was a local guy and Tulane was his dream job and he wouldn't leave. If they hire this guy, the hire after this guy would be the big thing.

New school President and new Athletic Director. That was 17 years of the same people running the clown show.

My thoughts exactly.
If Willie Fritz gets hired and I might actually go watch Tulane play next year (I'm already in New Orleans).
First step for Tulane is to start winning.
GA Tech, GA Southern, Navy, Air Force.. all win more than they lose. A spread option team that runs the ball, a la Oregon- Fritz's SHSU?- is also a good choice.
Bottom line: RUN THE BALL, PROTECT THE BALL, PLAY DEFENSE, Don't suck at special teams= Tulane will start winning. They desperately need to build a winning culture before stepping up big time.

One more thing about the Triple Option:
It works as long as you're not facing elite defenses that don't overcommit.
Tulane plays maybe 3-4 teams in the next 6-8 years that can claim this much.
I think a few guys are looking at our powderpuff schedule next year and thinking "yeah, I can win 8 games from that mess". A good option team can sweep our nonconference opponents and pile on 4-5 AAC wins along with that.

Why would he leave Southern for Tulane haha. What a dumb move on his part.

I bet you have no clue about Southern. Did you watch any games? Nope. Typical retarded post on this site.

He still runs a spread option.

Because Tulane would triple his salary, he would be dumb not to take that

With all the talent in the N.O. he definitely have the guys to run the triple option
Posted on 12/10/15 at 7:44 pm to TheBob
To be clear he isn't like a Georgia Tech triple option guy. He runs a shite ton of zone, with receiver motions that work as a pitch guy if the QB pulls.
Chip Kelly ran a lot of the same stuff at Oregon. Fritz has an awesome offense. Lots of misdirection all based off of zone.

Moronic post. Ever heard of the spread?
Tulane ran the spread last year.
Tulane's offense ranked 122 out of 128 Div I teams. NCAA Off Rank
Math may not be my strong suit, but I think being the 122 offensive threat out of 128 is bad......
Take your Greenie glasses off and look at their roster. Very limited talent on the offensive side of the ball. With the school's academic standards, you cant just go out and grab Johnny Athlete to make big plays in space. Embrace the darkside/triple option.

Nope, Tulane ran a pro-style offense for pretty much the last decade. Including this year

New Orleans better watch out for this guy. I've seen him carried out of a strip club before and that was just sweet little San Antonio.
Hell, he might work pro bono just to get down here

Tulane ran the spread last year? Lol. Now I've heard it all.
They ran a shitty version of Sean Payton's offense. Pro-Style.

CJ ran a pro-style offense. Football intelligence clearly isn't your strong suit.

I'll take that deal on every hire.
