Sam and Mingo were invisible at times. mingo had 15 sacks in 40 games. Neal in his first real chance gas 8 this season.

An offense that can effectively move the ball down field utilizing the passing game.

Or an offense that doesn't have it's most important piece or it's most NFL talented unit (o-line) disappear completely.

The production from Key and Neal have been more than decent.

We need size and depth on the entire front seven! Herron showed a little of what he can do against A&M but we need versatile players and 2 at each position. These guys have to stop leaving after 3 years unless they are 1st rounders and even keep some of those. Teams do it all the time so can we. This happens and we will have depth again and start winning games. This attitude of going to LSU just to get a check in 3 years is a cancer for this program!!! And if we going to run a pro style offense then let's do it and get the correct personnel. Need a smart QB that thinks quickly and has poise. This offense would run sooooooo much better with a QB that fit the system!! The pitch should be LSU still runs a pro style offense and we are the only team that will have you ready to play in the NFL if you are good enough here !

Coach O is a huuuuuge upgrade over Brick.
You kept hearing the same thing about LSU pass rusher coming out of college
"real athletic needs to develop some pass rush moves"

Do you think that might have something to do with coaching? Contrary to what most of the morons on the rant think, yes, bad coaching can make good players look bad

A coordinator?
They had one, but he left LSU high and dry.

The problem is we have no depth at LB and at DT. That's the issue. Saying we have no difference makers in the front 7 is just wrong. We do have some. But we have a huge drop off after them and they get worn down during games, especially the guys in the middle.
I dont disagree with you that we have playmakers in the front 7 but this whining about depth is tiresome. In 2 of 3 LSUs losses, they were down 21-0 and 24-0 , in the first half. its not a matter of the defense playing strong for 3 quarters then the wheels come off in the 4th. Its merely an average unit with a below average DC

We need linebackers, we have one. We need better safety play as well.
Perhaps the scheme was an issue, but I think Steele went to Zone to help the personnel issues, we just don't have players who are used to it. That will come in time. Most of our guys don't have any zone concepts coming from high school. I watched a high school team that changed coordinators this year, the D was pretty bad at the beginning of the year, but because of personnel it had to be done. They eventually got it.
Steele isn't a bad coordinator, it will just take time for players to learn his system fully.

Exactly what from his resumé suggests that this is even remotely true?

Debo Jones - Butkus award finalists Beckwith - Despite what some people think, he's still 1 of the top MLBs out there. Lewis Neal - 8 sacks and has been solid vs the run as well Godchaux is also extremely disruptive and a good DT. And Arden Key has played very good for a true freshman. We have some difference makers. The problem is we have no depth at LB and at DT. That's the issue. Saying we have no difference makers in the front 7 is just wrong. We do have some. But we have a huge drop off after them and they get worn down during games, especially the guys in the middle. And the reason we are 8-3 is because of our front 7 on D? Really? Really? Is this a joke?
I love our players, and each guy you listed there is a very good player who is definitely a quality starter on most SEC defenses, with Bama being an exception. However, none of them are elite with the possible exception of Key in a year or two. If you put a couple of our former elite front 7 guys on this defense WITH these guys, it would make all the difference in the world.
We've been missing that game-changer element from the defense the last three years. For two of those years, Chavis schemed around this and disguised weaknesses. Steele just ran his scheme straight for most of the year and opened up the floodgates in the process.

Exactly... We have good players, but none are game changers. No one the other team game plans against, forces double teams etc.

Depth & a offense Cord. The defense cannot play the whole game they just tire out.

Miles gets criticism for a lot of things, some deserved, some not, but even though he's had some good hires, Brick set the defense back terribly... shite recruiting, which has led to no depth and no development (the Bears and Vikings have been critical of Ferguson's and Hunter's development publically).
Hopefully O sticks around. He's started out well but has a lot of work to do to sort out Brick's mess.
