How does this board look if Harris doesn't overthrow 1 out of every 3 passes?

1 of 3 may be a stretch, I know. Many of us agree that the offensive philosophy is antiquated, to say the least. It's predicable and unexciting, and clearly doesn't work against November competition, because those teams will not be bullied.
But let's be clear. Harris did this team no favors last month. Maybe that's on Cam which in turn is on Les, but it doesn't change the fact that Harris let's a lot of balls sail. He's left receivers out to dry and when we pass to Fournette twice every 3 games, it's rarely a cleanly thrown ball that hits him in stride.
I'm as frustrated with the offense as anyone. But let's remember what Cam did with Mett from '12-'13. Hopefully we see a similar leap from Harris. If he improves in this one area alone, then we could all be singing a different tune. The philosophy won't change, but Harris can get better. If he can make that leap next year, then look out.

I remember Mett having trouble on the deep balls, but he always seemed pretty good at those screens. Remember how he would side arm that shovel pass play? I liked how he did that. Got the ball to Hill quick.

After his pick, I believe he is now always scared to throw another. Hes thinking too much and throws it high so either his teammate can get it or nobody can. Just needs to settle down and work on his form/footwork. Another offseason should help A TON.

Coupled with a little bit better execution, both from QB and receivers, I'd love to see a scheme similar to Saturday's thought next season. We shall see.

screen pass has him confused as well. It is either a bullet or at their feet. Just get the ball to the RB and let him take off. The only job on the play is to not give it away to soon and throw the ball to the back. You may have to throw over someone now and then but Im sure that is done at practice as well. Sometimes with Brandon I just think it is nerves. Just needs more experience IMO

I remember a ton of those type throws to Hill. Had some big plays out of nothing. That's frickin' doable with Fournette. Kid has hands. Just need Harris to settle IMO.

agreed
the philosophy actually works if you have good QB play. If Harris improves we likely don't see run, run, pass, punt nearly as much. We have tried to throw on early downs this year, some.

Like I always tell my kids and friends.

our staff can call plays. we might not like them being so conservative, but many is the time that we miss wide open receivers, or just don't see them.
I still blame the coaching staff. we don't practice enough against the cupcakes when mistakes aren't as likely to hurt us.
then when we have to, our qb is too damn nervous to execute.

Honestly other than the goal line wild tiger debacles the play calling was pretty good against Ole Miss as well
Just poor execution on throws and entirely too many destructive penalties

And as we all know, the WR did him no favors early on too. The more reps they all have together, the better.

Having been a QB myself, the biggest thing you can do to a QB is try and force him to be a QB that he is not. I think we are trying to make Harris a pocket passer, and that is not his strength. He isn't accurate enough to sit in the pocket and make every throw, because he cannot make every throw. What Harris needs is to be able to get out of the pocket and make plays by extending the play and allowing his WRs to stretch the field, a lot like he did against Miss State last year when he blew up that 4th quarter.
I am not fast, and I have been put into situations where I had to make plays with my feet and I just wasn't able to. I think that is what we are trying to do with Harris and it is not working like we want. If we want someone to sit in the pocket and make every throw we need to recruit a guy that can do that.
I want to see the OC let Harris go out there and make plays. He doesn't look comfortable out there. I think our offense can really catch fire if we take the handcuffs off.

Mett struggled his JR year hear and dealt with way less drops than Harris did. Harris will improve. The first 7 games he looked WAY better than what he did his freshman year. November rolled around Bama and Arkansas shut down our running game. The oline became soft and were getting penalties left and right. Neither of these things were confidence boosters. Just like Mett in his JR year, Harris has made some beautiful throws in tight coverage. Which shows he has the talent he just needs to improve his accuracy and timing.

Diarse looks like he has hands that are two feet wide and he can't catch a single fricking pass.
He has been a big disappointment to me on the offense.

the staff is responsible for fixing those mistakes, of course. They did a pretty good job of fixing them in 2013. I'm gonna put my P&G sunglasses on and assume if Cam keeps his job, he's gonna be focused on Harris.

If we connect on more passes, we probably pass more, and the board is a while lot more positive.
