Done Deal
No one can accurately predict a supervisory veto. It was a done deal for all intents and purposes until a political agenda, which has both pros and cons, intervened.

Done Deal means no one will nix it. It was bad info period.
A done deal before a signing doesn't/can't mean that the papers have been signed. Until papers are signed there is no way to know for sure that Jimbo isn't playing LSU.
So a done deal shouldn't mean that it is already inked when Les hasn't coached his last game yet. Done deal that he was referring to is that LSU had made up its mind AT THAT POINT to fire les and hire Jimbo. LSU and or Jimbo backed out.
Put another way a done deal at that point means negotiations are over and both sides have agreed to the terms.

I've had many work projects that were "done deals" all the way to right below the C level execs, only to be nixed by the C level execs for no other reason that to put their power on display. This happens in business quite a bit.
