ESPN article sites a source that I think really nails why LSU chose to retain Miles. It's a shame that this is what this all comes down to regardless of whether or not you believe Miles should go.

In addition, the source said the university felt it would have been difficult to ask for funds from the state in the future because a buyout of Miles' contract would have been paid by private donations.

ESPN has no idea what they are talking about. I have no sources, but a blind man can see they openly courted Fisher and would have dropped Les with a quickness if he fell within the parameters.
More than anything, I have lost any faith I had left in that worthless organization called ESPN. Most of the commentators don't watch the game, but they'll be damned if they don't throw in their two pennies.

That is why the media said Jindal gave Miles a Vote of Confidence..........

FWIW< if you go to Louisiana Sunshine (google it) and create a little log in, you can see what every state employee makes. Les is right there at $300k a year by taxpayers... as a tax paying Louisianian, I would support a 10 year tax to payout that small chunk of change for the right hire... hell, I already pay $200 a year for a bus system that doesn't have a bus stop anywhere near my house.

The SEC Network guys were the only ones I heard that had a real, thoughtful discussion about all sides of the issues with Miles. They did a good job talking about the pros and cons of Miles. The rest of ESPN was a damn joke of talking heads with flapping gums. Nothing but soundbyte city.

TAF and LSU atetics run completely independent of state money and have for quite some time now.

This is why ESPN isnt a news organization. They're a highlight network. That's all I ask of them and all I need. Not news. Just highlights.

Alleva would not care about asking the state for money. However, King Alexander would.

What it means is the next time LSU came with their hands out for some state funding the legislature could simply say "go ask your private supporters".
