What you reported may have been correct, when you reported it.
The situation changed after the media bashed LSU and would have continually bashed LSU if the new coach failed to perform as well as Miles.
It was a no win situation due to the way the AD handled the process. He comes off as looking like an incompetent buffoon. I know a little about hiring and firing people as I've made literally thousands of those decisions. This was handled wrong from the beginning. Those who were pushing for this are so far removed from the average fan they simply didn't understand that they were acting in a very heavy handed way to an honorable man.
The LSU fan base would have accepted a change if it had been done right. Floating names of replacements, only to be denied appeared to be amateurish at best.
I'll be waiting for your report on when Alleva gets shown the door. In corporate America, this P.R. disaster would cause heads to roll. Alleva has damaged the LSU brand and IMO, should be fired.
FlatLakeTiger, you are dead on. The wealth boosters are used to getting their way and that didn't happen this time. They also like to run their mouths too much as that is the by-product of money and power. Been there, done that.
And you are also dead on about a PR disater of this magnitude would resulting in someone losing their job. Alleva's seat has got to be very hot.

Meaning not Alleva? He should know how to gauge the fanbase and use that intel to inform his decisions, talk others back from the ledge.

I think it is pretty clear that this guy probably doesn't know anyone and is definitely an attention whore. He heard Richt would be fired a week early and just sits on that while blabbing about everything else.

That says absolutely nothing about your source's credibility.
How would he be in a position to know something?

good description of what went down. looks like alleva can share plenty blame but not all of it is on him.

Something went wrong with the Fisher deal Friday or Saturday. Saturday Fisher was reported to have told the president at Florida State that he was staying and had no interest in any other jobs. The word on the street initially was that Fisher’s agent, the somewhat-infamous Jimmy Sexton, had surfaced late in the process with some additional demands which were deal-breakers. But after the game a different word surfaced; namely that it wasn’t Fisher or Sexton who blew up the deal but that it happened on LSU’s end. Specifically, that LSU’s president F. King Alexander blanched at spending the money to hire Fisher.
quote:
It’s also worth mentioning that Alexander blew up a bond issue for the school by crying wolf about “academic bankruptcy” in the spring, before the final budget was passed and no major cuts to his budget were made at all. Not to mention that where LSU is concerned athletics is anything but a distraction for the university as a whole. The athletic department dumps some $8 million per year into the university’s coffers, so investments from donors into athletics which produce victories, championships and revenue function largely as free venture capital for Alexander’s purposes. And yet, if the stories are true, Alexander blew up the hire of a national championship coach whose last four starting quarterbacks heading into this year have all been first-round draft picks to replace Miles – so that he could preserve his Poor F. King Alexander narrative
quote:
When the actual cost to the university for this change would have been exactly nil. Miles’ buyout, to the extent one would have needed to be paid, would have come from voluntary contributions outside the school and any increase in spending on Fisher would have come from increased donations to the school, either voluntarily or courtesy of a Tiger Athletic Foundation ticket surcharge increase the fans would not have objected to.

When I heard Les say he had spoken to FKing I figured something like that had happened.

At least you are taking it like a man.

That just doesn't make any sense.
For that to be true, the boosters and Alleva would have had to had this deal in place, watch it get nixed by Alexander, and just take it without any public complaint.
That's a psychotic conclusion. The Fisher deal fell through. They rightfully understood how far behind they were with plan B (see Herman info today) and chose to tuck their tales. I also believe that the money committed to buy out Les wasn't as committed for an unknown hire.

What I keep coming back to is that either:
1. All you guys were full of crap and always have been.
Or
2. LSU has some incredibly stupid and unethical idiots involved at many levels of the football program, booster groups, and athletic department.
This whole thing...if it was true at all...fell apart because the people involved in it couldn't keep their traps shut. We have things were nobody knew much but some lone voice turned out to know something in the end. On this...EVERYBODY KNEW EVERYTHING. It's not "inside info" if the info is everywhere. The info we had here is the same that was on tigerbait...the same that was on 247...the same that was in the the Rabalais column...the same that came from Joe Schad...etc. LSU has to fix that problem. The average dude on a message board is always gonna want to know what's up. The guys at the top need to realize they need to shut their trap to their friends.
If the whole fire miles hire Jimbo thing was for real than what killed it was information control. That's on Alleva cause that's his job.

No. That's just not true. How did you come to that conclusion?
It fell apart because these things typically fall apart when you are trying to hire a NC winning coach away from a very good program.
It was the lack of recognition of the difficulty of that hire combined with a general incompetence/lack of commitment to making a change that resulted in what happened.
A good AD would have listened to the boosters and made sure that all money for the buyout was secured and not dependent on a specific hire. That's just not a feasible plan. Without that's trying of a commitment, you just can't move forward. If you get that commitment, then you start the entire hiring process. And when Jimbo falls through your #2 and #3 are already vetted and ready to go.
What happened was basically the worst case scenario. Alleva cut the legs out of the current head coach...and then failed to replace him.

You are ignoring the public outcry and local and national media part of this deal.
If this isn't national news all week last week which led to the huge show of support at the game on Saturday...
Is Les Miles still the coach today? I doubt it.
That reporting and all the stuff on every LSU site there is was the result of Allevas inability to control the information on this stuff.

yes
The admin had already taken the heat. And, obviously, this would have been expected.
The public outcry had nothing to do with the decision that was made.

So basically fisher did to FSU what les did to us with Arky.

BUMP from 2015
This thread features the same Trio of fricktards who fooled this board in 2015 and should've been permanently banned.
Flash forward to 2016, somehow they all return with the exact same BS, and almost everyone on this board swallowed their jizz again with a smile.
How does it taste?
