What exactly would you have liked us to do? Tell the other teams to not load the box so we can work on our passing game? It doesn't work that way.
For some reason, LSU is the only "good" team that has this problem. We usually have around 6 defenders in the box because we know that teams will kill us if we load up up front. Why are other teams able to do both and not run into 8-9 man fronts and then pad their passing stats by taking deep shots downfield?
If we can overpower other teams, it works. If we can't, we are sunk. We knew that we would not be able to overpower our November schedule and we had the door slammed in our face over and over.
It isn't that hard to see. If we could see it, then why couldn't Les? That is why it is time to move on.

You're spot on OP. Les knew his coaching style was just enough to not be able to justify firing him. With our talent we are good enough to win 8 or 9 games by default, or even by coaching scared. Make your QB scared to death. Low risk low reward. It's good enough to keep that $4.5 mil rolling in year after year after year. But many LSU fans see the telltale signs of a program trending downward and simply not trying anymore. No game planning and poor body language from players. Confusion, etc.
And if you think you want to fire him, good luck getting it by the media. LSU called Les' "good enough" bluff and he winded up holding the cards. The PR hit is too much for some.
Les is a good man. But even good men can have large egos. He has dared LSU to call his bluff on the offense for years. We finally did and it's looking like he won. We will not win another championship with Les and the program may very well continue its slow decline. But damned if you do and damned if you don't.

The 3 games leading up to Bama, we averaged over 22 pass attempts for over 200 yards and 2 TDs. Facts don't jive with your post, but that's no surprise.
Tell us how we did against SEC west teams sport.
We are getting our assss kicked.

Why are LSU receivers never open? No matter who we play, a DB or two are all over whoever we throw the ball to?
Now you're just making shite up.

Ahh so LSU just can't pass is your reasoning? Well, we will just chalk it up guys. No passing allowed. They tried, didn't work, so frick it. Run the sumbitch!

Because we didn't pass against S.C. or Florida.

There's passing and then there's developing a passing game.

Did you actually watch those games? We literally pray we get someone open 50yds downfield and chuck it deep. We have no short to intermediate passing game what so ever. It's an elementery attack

So much truth. The offensive scheme has sucked for so long. LSU fans don't even realize what a competent college passing attack looks like anymore.
At another school, sure. LSU recruits highly regarded QBs. It's not like they lack talent. Maybe in 3 more years Harris will finally have sufficient experience to run this offense.

Normally the defense and ST teams are good enough to squeak out enough ugly wins to finish with 10 wins and a Chic fil a bowl.

LOL, if you react those games, there were a shite ton of bombs that fell into the right hands. We never developed the passing game. We got lucky on a few deep passes and thought we did.

I bet it wasn't balanced like the OP suggested so his overriding point still holds.

Ok Captain Hindsight. Let's see some posts of yours from back then saying this. I'm sure they exist.
Dig through my posts and you'll find dozens. A lot of us were concerned when Syracuse and East Michigan held LSUs passing game in check. It's just not an offense that's capable of winning the West.

The "issue" is that our passing game only worked after we ran the ball into 8-9 man fronts who were loaded up to stop the run. Once we played a defense with a decent front 7, our plan didn't work and we didn't have an alternative.
Do you even watch the games? Bama dominated us up front, you can't do shite with that. Arkansas game the coaches ran shotgun on the first 21 plays. They went away from what was working, it was a knee jerk reaction just like the fans have. It failed.

The most damning thing is 2012-2013 when even an experienced Mett couldn't do shite in 2012 and needed NFL receivers making circus catches downfield in 2013 to make the offense work. LSU has no QB or WRs like those in sight and that's what it takes for this offense.
Posted on 11/28/15 at 11:34 am to LNCHBOX
quote:Yes, actually. You tell them that by passing early and often and spreading the defense out wider than our 1 WR big sets. If successful, the box won't be stacked anymore.
Tell the other teams to not load the box so we can work on our passing game? It doesn't work that way.

Dropped passes by this supposed supreme talent. So what would any one with a fricking brain do? Run the guy leading the Heisman race.
