He just needs to rebound. What was being said other than that?
Posted on 11/25/15 at 8:56 am to msutiger
i don't think anyone's expecting him to come in and average 20/10 but an able body in the post will be a very welcome addition.

We need a rebounder and someone we can get the ball into on the block if we need to.
That's it. Doesn't need to be all SEC, just better than Elbert (and muchhhhhhh better than Malone).

It be nice to have a big body that can rebound...not expecting 10+ points every game.

Some low post d and rebounding. They really don't need a lot just a couple stops and extra possessions a game will do this team wonders.

If he plays solid defense, rebounds and gets put backs, that's a big deal. There are plenty of scorers in this team.

I mean he's a talented big that fills a void that we have.
He doesn't need to be exceptional, he needs to be able to hold his own defensively and grab boards.
His mid range jumpshot will help clear out the lane for Simmons and picks too. Robinson doesn't have the athleticism to run those plays and get back under the goal

What expectations are you seeing that you deem too high?
Victor is an athletic 6'9 235 pounder who will help us rebounding which is what we supremely struggle with right now as well as defending the paint.
The starting lineup will be:
Victor
Simmons
Hornsby
Blakeney
Quarterman
That way we have options off the bench like Gray, Sampson, ER III, Patterson, Epps, etc...
Guys that should be coming off the bench, and not starting.

Damn I thought he was more like 6'6"/7". He did not look 6'9" in person, but I am no measuring stick.
ETA:
That's fantastic if true.

I don't think any rational fan is expecting him to come in and give LSU Simmons-like production, or even Martin or Mickey-like production. However, he can't be any worse than what than what LSU has in the post right now. LSU's best post option right now is 6'4" Bridgewater
He may not completely turn the team around, but he can only improve it.

Victor
Simmons
Blakeney
Hornsby
Quarterman
With Sampson, Patterson, Gray and Bridgewater getting a ton of minutes is what I want.
Against teams like Marquette with 2 7-footers (Vandy), we can go big:
Elbert
Victor
Simmons
Hornsby/Blakeney
Quarterman
^^ That is actually a pretty damn huge starting 5 if you factor in guard length.

When we compare him ER , DM and AE, he will be superstar personified. Those other three can't tie their own shoes. I've been to few practices and he gives Ronald Dupree a legit player to work with. He will def help the cause

I'm wondering how good this guy is too. We had a lot of guys saying this was going to be a Sweet 16 team in the offseason, that Simmons and Victor would way more than offset the loss of Mickey and Martin. If that's the case, then Victor is going to need to be capable of a double-double. We NEED a guy who will approach 10 rebounds a game playing down low, because outside of Simmons, we don't have anybody who hits the boards.
And with Simmons running the offense, we need SOMEONE to establish a post presence. 10 points via post-ups and garbage points (Mickey offense) isn't a whole lot if he's a starter.
If he's not that, this team is way overrated. Because, simply, as good as Simmons is, he's really not a huge factor as a front court player- he needs to be on the wing. Otherwise, he's an immensely skilled passer waiting for someone to dump him the ball down low.

he's 6'8" officially and has a 6'9" wingspan

I don't know that much about Epps other than he seems to have a good size.
Victor HAS to be better than Epps, right? Because he's a non-factor, and if we get another guy of the same quality, this team is going to have to fight just to get into the tourney, Simmons or not.

Bridgewater played almost 25 minutes last night. He plays hard but he's just too small to get those tough rebounds, especially when the refs aren't calling anything down low. If Victor can snag two or three of those rebounds he will make an immediate impact.
