Actually, my mama made it the same way his did, straight out of the can. I didn't try homemade until I made it myself, fifteen or so years ago. Some years I serve both versions. This year, it will only be a group of four, so canned it is!

My old aunt who insisted on bringing those tasteless brown n serve rolls died a few yrs ago so now I make some good homemade crusty bread. Also cranberry sauce with orange zest and a shot of brandy

This and 24 consecutive hours of Christmas Story are 2 of my favorite holiday traditions. But mom's cornbread dressing to go with the sauce is completely homemade from scratch.
