Did Steele mess up the rotation in secondary trying to force Mills back in?

Obviously Mills has been a great contributor here at LSU and was deserving of some playing time when healthy.

I think all of us thought that the secondary would be greatly improved once he was inserted back into the lineup. And since then everything has fallen apart.

I'm not putting this on Mills obviously. I'm putting this on Steele. Does he not understand how to use our personnel? You shouldn't get worse when you upgrade your depth/talent level.

No, the secondary has been consistently mediocre for pretty much the entire season.

Steele messed up the secondary by forcing himself in LSU's program.

Watching the Ole Piss game I was thinking the same thing. ever since Mills came back our defense has been beyond terrible. I, too, and not putting it all on Mills but it just strikes me as odd.

Steele was the disaster we all knew it'd be.

And he got Miles fired.

No. The DBs had been blowing coverages all season before Mills came back.

Certainly seems to have gotten worse after

3 consecutive games with giving up 30 points or more. Before that the most we gave up was 28 to Florida and 14 of that was on the special teams.

Mills has been bad. But Dwayne Thomas was not an upgrade.

Before the last 3 games, we'd played ONE starting QB. Hell, Syracuse was down to their 5th string walk-on.

The last three games have been against much better talent than the 7 teams we faced earlier.

Again...until the Bama game we hadn't looked that bad. And we weren't even that bad in the Bama game. Offense just got dominated.

Arkansas and Ole Miss games we got completely torched

Mississippi state is no slouch and we held them to 19 in the first game of the season on the road

Starting 2 true freshman, one in the secondary.

We gave up 270 and 2 TDs to Treon Harris

There were a couple of busted assignments in that game

But they also made one hell of a catch on the sideline that was well defended

And as far as points...half of them came from special teams.

well that helps

The deficiencies were fairly obvious the entire season, easy to ignore when you are winning though, and scoring on offense

This. Hiring Steele was a huge mistake. Secondary has gone from being one of the best in the conference to becoming a laughing stock. DBs look confused and lost. Can only be attributed to the changes Steele made (whatever those may have been). He was terrible at Clemson and he is even worse now. Miles made the decision to hire Steele, and my guess is that this decision is one reason that Miles' job is in jeopardy.

Dwayne Thomas and Jefferson were awful. Switching out Tolliver for Jackson was meh too. Ed Paris should have stayed Safety.
