Venomous Snake Problem At New House

My wife and I are close to buying a house that we really like. A couple of days ago, we go with the realtor to see the house. Everything inside is perfect and exactly what we are looking for.
I go out to the backyard and start looking around. I happen to look down and I see this ...
This is exactly what he looked like and exactly how he was posed, although this is not the actual snake. There is a large swampy area directly behind the property and about 30 yards from the back patio (no backyard fence). If these gotdamn moccasins are hanging out in the backyard in November, I can only imagine what it will look like in July and August.
My question to the OB is should I look for another house or is there something that I can put out in the yard to keep these things out? The yard is not very large.

Choot 'em and or start raising speckled king snakes.

Buy a bunch of King snakes and let them loose. If your area allows, guinea fowl are great at killing snakes.

I am 100% positive you can find more houses for sale.

I like to get a shotgun, get down on my knee at an angle and see how far I can blow them

The sight of a snake is causing you to reconsider buying a house? Were you born with a pair or are you transgender.
ETA: One snake in the yard isn't a problem, Finding a couple hanging out behind the toilet more than once would constituter a possible infestation.

We have a drainage ditch and woods behind our house. Saw snakes on occasion when we first moved int. Got 2 dogs for the kids and never saw anymore snakes in the yard.
Get a good pellet rifle and a dog you'll be fine.
Note: I'll admit it did worry me when the kids were 4 and 6.

Like others have said, they will be by almost any house you buy. Don't let it detour you from the house. Over time they may get pushed from their habitat has you encroach on it.
I live on the edge of the swamp and don't see them as regularly as you would think. I kill one a year as my dog has gotten bit once a year since I've lived here. I'll admit that it is now on my mind when cutting the brush around the ditch or when the rain water backs into the yard. They wouldn't stop me from buying my house. I don't have any advice on how to combat them besides my method of a shovel or shot gun.

You sound like quite the masculine specimen.
Snakes don't eat your food, piss on your carpet, and chew your boots up. I don't know where on the planet (I'm assuming Louisiana) you are, but there are snakes everywhere. If you don't want snakes in your backyard, kill them, get a dog or a cat. Contrary to OB belief, snakes aren't going around looking for people to frick with.

I catch snakes in my pool all the time. Rural Prairieville. Poisonous die, king and rat snakes get thrown under my house. My kids are 2, 6, and 9. Teach them about snakes, tell your wife not to freak out every time she sees one or the kids will mimic her reaction. Seriously, as with guns, teach your kids to respect the snakes and understand the possible danger of messing with the wrong one. When I catch a nonpoisonous snake, its like a science lesson for the kids.
