Do good true pocket passers not want to go to LSU or do we just not want them?

All we need is a good reliable passer.. Just a game manager like a Matt Flynn or Matt Maulk who don't make mistakes and who defenses respect.. This is the same issue every year and its keeping us from a championship this year and could possibly next year.. I don't understand how its so obvious to everyone but that coaching staff.. In my opinion next year is championship or bust and its not looking good.. I know play calling has a lot to do with it too.

Brandon Harris was one of the top rated quarterbacks in the country. The same could be said about almost every quarterback we've recruited.

You think Brandon Harris is a dual threat QB because he's black don't you?

go look at Flynn and Mauck's stats, and then get back to me on reliable passers who don't make mistakes. not a shot at either guy but 1) they had to develop into the championship QBs they became and 2) ppl really tend to romanticize about their attributes as QBs.

So let's say they took Mason Rudolph instead of Harris. Do you honestly think anything would be different now?

I mean...Harris has most certainly been a "game manager" this year

Harris is a naturally gifted quarterback that by all accounts has worked extremely hard in the offseason to perfect his game. Our system itself has let him down, and he's been forced into a disproportionately high amount of 3rd and long scenarios in the last two games.
You reference being a game manager, and I think he's done a good job and compares favorably to Flynn. He has a higher completion pct and QBR, and was ranked as the best QB in the SEC by PFF halfway through the year.
It's not his fault.

Les wants a mobile QB, hence sticking with JJ after tGOTC.

Excuses listed by pumpers since the loss to Arky:
Can Cameron's fault.
Steeles fault.
Offensive lines fault.
Injuries.
Too young.
Not enough experience.
QB not good enough.
QB not trained hard enough.
The fans are at fault.
Allevas fault.
Etc.
Etc.
Never mention good ole Less...

We can't develop them. It's not that we ONLY run the ball, it's just that we don't decide to pass it until we've lost a couple times and it's too late in the season to develop a passing game.

Louisiana high schools dont produce many passing QBs. Its due to the type of athletes and offenses the high schools run to suit them. Most high schools arent going to have the time or personnel to develop a passing QB every year. They might get lucky once in a while and have a 2-3 year starter that can pass. But most are going to put their best athlete at QB and let him run or scramble around and buy time and throw to wide open receivers.
This has been Miles' QB problem all along. He's signing running qbs and trying to put them in pro style offenses and make them into drop back passers. Never going to happen. He either needs to adjust his offense to fit our talent pool, or recruit passing QBs from Texas to fit our offense.

While I agree with you, Harris isn't a "running qb." He's lucky in that he's decently mobile and can scramble, but he's a natural drop-back passer than can make NFL throws across the hashes.

and specifically stated that he chose LSU because he wanted to learn a more pro offense

We have the top rated QB in the country committed to us with Franks.
We have a couple more younger than him who are committed and are highly ranked.
Harris and Jennings were both highly regarded coming out of HS (though not as much as Franks for next year)
Heck, even Lee was one of the top rated QB's coming out of H.S.
Our problem is not recruiting talented QB's. Under Cameron especially, we've only improved our QB recruiting. For whatever reason, it hasn't always translated to the film (I think Harris has developed nicely since 2014)

Harris is one of the rare few who can do both, and has the best potential of any QB Miles has had. Perriloux was that as well. But year in and year out LA is going to have "athlete" QBs that have been scrambling around and throwing to wide open WRs,putting up good passing numbers, and leading people to believe they are good passers. But havent got the first clue on how to read a defense or go through progressions. When they get to a pro style offense at LSU its like putting a square peg into a round hole.
But guys that can do both are really hard to find. LA high schools dont develop passing games like TX. (Evangel being one of the exceptions, and not coincidentally has put out the best passing QBs) (Newman with the Mannings was also an exception).

I do agree with this. The development of QBs has been horrendous, but its because of what i said earlier. LSU is asking them to do things that they're not good at, instead of playing to their strengths. Even when we do let Harris throw downfield, we're giving him either a one WR route or straight verticals and letting the WR try to make a play. Very little imagination to get guys open and give him high percentage throws.
