And yes per capita means alot within reason. Of course an extremely small sample size is easy to swing one way or the other. With a sample size of 2+M this is not the case.
Louisiana produces as much or more NFL talent than most state with double or triple our population. And there is no other P5 school in state.

does per capita really mean you have more talent?
Please show me where I said this?
No one said Louisiana has more talent, but we have a tremendous amount of talent given the limited competition.

My point is that UGA and AU are basically in state competition. None of the schools you listed come into LA and hand pick talent, save Bama, and that's even a stretch. For the most part, LSU lands the LA kids it wants.
But not always, that changes depending on the staff. And since saban got here, LSU has done really well at recruiting in state and out of state.
You can't win on LA talent alone. The next guy isn't going to just walk in here and get whoever, they will be in a dog fight for recruits. It's not so simple. Not every kid wants to spend the rest of his life in LA.
The next coach isn't just going to have a cake walk because some of y'all actually believe a monkey could win here.

Are you seriously trying to compare Florida's programs state last year to state of LSU's program right now?

Miles, he abhors competence in assistants.

I completely agree. That's why I think a coach who has recruited the southeast would be crucial. LSU needs Florida talent as well.

It wasn't that long ago that Frank Wilson was at UT taking kids we wanted. Saban has been killing us in North Louisiana for years. The idea that no one comes in and take guys we want is a romanticized fiction. Miami, Florida, and FSU used to do that shite all the time. When LSU has been good, they've gotten most of those guys, though. It isn't automatic, however.

Hear me out, there is enough talent in those other states to go around because they dwarf Louisiana in population numbers and have significant more talent. It doesn't matter that there is only 5 fbs programs here, more than GA, the other states have more talent.

Florida was a dumpster fire a year ago. This team is loaded, at least at skill positions, with top 2 recruiting classes, man. These are things potential HCs look at.

Yep, they were so far down that they won their division in October (to put it in perspective, they clinched the east before the anniversary of firing Muschamp in season). How could anyone ever rebuild Florida? It is a juggernaut. If nothing else, it proves that Florida is a better job than LSU. All things being equal, you get to play in the eastern division. QED, female dogs.

LSU doesn't have a blank check to write, And don't think running an 78% win coach won't have a bearing on a new coach.

Go look at how most of the talent LSU lost in LA to Bama has worked out. Cam Rob is just now playing well. Tony Brown? Is he even on the team? Speedy (*TAMU)? Dude has like 8 catches on the year.
LSU gets the kids it wants the vast majority of the time and this can be proven through the data. Seriously, how many kids leave the state compared to how many end up at LSU? (and we can only count kids who actually were recruited by LSU)

Look I'm just pointing out LSU isn't better than those jobs, about equal imo. The prospect thing doesn't matter if you don't get a coach that can assemble a staff to go head to head with guys like saban and sumlin every year.
Then it doesn't really matter the talent in state. Because other teams will come in and pluck a few here and there and leave you with the scraps.
LSU has been able to go get top kids from other states, but that just shows how good of a tag team Les and Frank have been.
When new coaches come in they are amazed out how organized the recruiting efforts are from this staff.
Maybe LSU knocks it out of the park, but they better be able to recruit down here or get someone who can. Why do you think schools put guys from LA on their staff? To come steal that 1-2 players.

We can agree to disagree I guess. But the fact of the matter is that thsoe jobs aren't open.

man, we would have to make a pretty god awful hire for this to happen.

I would laugh, but it has happened before . . .

I guarantee you Jimbo wanted to be the HC at LSU when they hired Miles.
I guarantee you are correct.

Six face-to-face interviews were conducted from Dec. 26-30: then-LSU assistants Bobby Williams and Jimbo Fisher; Nutt, who had just finished his seventh season at Arkansas; former Texas A&M coach R.C. Slocum; Miles; and then-Louisville coach Bobby Petrino.

Also interesting from that article:
quote:
Steve Spurrier and Urban Meyer were Bertman’s top choices, he admits, but they were taken.
Spurrier had just returned to the college game at South Carolina, and Meyer had recently been hired at Florida. LSU was starting its search late.
“Nick put us in a tough spot,” Weems said.
If LSU got into the mix before South Carolina, “We could have had Spurrier,” one committee member said.

Yep. Hannagriff just said LSU would be the biggest school with an opening with USC the closest this off season.

I know it has, but I firmly believe LSU is at a point that they could sway a pretty big name. The roster has enough talent. Fill in a few pieces in the trenches and let's geaux.
