what small independent energy companies are here in Lafayette?

If this market ever turns around, who are some of the companies I can go talk to about a job?

so far I have:

Stone energy
PetroQuest Energy
Marlin energy
Badger energy
JP Oil
Tana(field office?)
Arena offshore (field office?)

Lafayette is a dead town for operators. Most people get in by knowing someone, or working in Houston first then waiting for the select few openings in Lafayette. There are probably hardly any job openings there now. Others work on degrees at ULL and intern at Stone, then get hired after a long drawn out process if they are fortunate.

Freeport-McMoran also has an office in Lafayette, in the same building as Shoreline and Petroquest.

You might have better chances going to work as/for a consultant like Stokes and Spiehler
