i give all the credit to steph, but he's jumped from really good to the upper stratosphere of all time in 2 seasons at a relatively late age
year/PER/(age during playoffs)
10: 16.31 (23)
11: 19.46 (24)
12: 21.23 (25)
13: 21.34 (26)
14: 28.06 (27)
15: 35.53 (28)
a 14-point jump in PER in 2 years after 3 hovering around 20 (when his peak progress should have ended no less, based on age)
it's a remarkable, once in a lifetime situation unfolding

People wonder what Derrick Rose would look like if he could stay healthy.
The answer is Russell Westbrook.

Please, I told you three years ago how asinine that statement was and that his ankle problems were no big deal (he missed less than 20 games over that 2 year stretch at the time of the post) and you were clamoring on about how healthy Eric Gordon was better than curry.
You called him a man without position yet you've been on Russell Westbrook's jock despite him facing the same problem (without Curry's skills as a passer or shooter).
You're not under attack, you were just wrong and in this thread where the OP is asked-the answer is frick no.

i defend Russ b/c he gets more irrational hate, and always has (see the post i replied to just before this)

ignoring the injury issue, pretty sure curry is the only player (with starter minutes) in NBA history to have a 10-point PER jump after the age of 25 so i'll gladly be wrong due to the one outlier example in the history of the NBA of this occurring

Well, most people hate Russell Westbrook for the nearly the reverse reason you were hating on Curry in 2012-that he was some product of the system. With Russell hate is the extension that OKC's offense was boring to watch and with little ball movement, save for the brilliant one-on-one play by the Westbrook and KD.
Now that they are attempting moving the ball more(and they also have much better players now), you will see less of that.

Again, it's the difference between Jackson and Kerr's systems.

i've never "hated" on curry
saying he has to overcome injury issues before we can project his ranking the next 10 years isn't hating

no he was hated for not being KD and for KD turning into a huge vagina in big games and hiding, making russ take over
people thought he was "stealing shots" from KD and when he did it late, he was the reason they lost. hell even respected media personalities were trying to create a rift between russ and KD based on this stuff. it wouldn't matter what system they ran if KD kept hiding in big moments and russ had to make shite happen

that possibly explains the 5 point bump he had last year, but not the 10 extra on top of that, that he's throwing out there this year

Woah. First page is littered with people bowing and worshipping at the Westbrook alter.
A few years back, you could count the MSB Westbrook supporters on one hand.

Their hate was because they wanted KD to score 50 points a game. "Your pg shouldn't be taking 20 shots". They were glued to that position mindset that only a few back then saw as something that was evolving. I used to get so frustrated arguing with those morons.

he still has too many bad shooting nights for them to win it all unless KD carries them. flawed player but really exciting to watch.

I think most people just assumed that Westbrook was selfish and holding Durant, and subsequently the team, back due to his shooting. Westbrook does take a lot of shots, but in fairness, he can beat anyone in the league one on one. He's also not afraid to take a big shot and miss. That's one of those intangible characteristics that will never show up on a stat sheet, but Westbrook is absolutely fearless.
He gets a lot of hate for his shot selection, but I love his aggression. He takes shots, but he also creates shots. I believe that he was the second most efficient shot creator in the NBA last year on more than 1000 shots (53%) to only Steph Curry (55%). He's not only passing a lot, but he's generating high-percentage looks. And to think, that 53% largely came without the help of Durant since he sat out 50+ games last year.
He's not better than Steph, but Steph is the best player in the league right now. Westbrook is unequivocally top 5 and likely top 3.

Be curious to see if his efficiency is up this year due to actually running an offense.
The heavy iso of year's past really made him look bad when his jumper was off.
Outside of KD and Steph, his bad shooting nights are right there with the Paul George, Harden, Lillard, Melo, etcs of the world.
You don't see any of those dudes have 17 rebound nights doe.

last 6 games for instance
37% fg
29% 3pt
horrible shooting nights in losses to TOR(8-21), CHI(7-18), and BOS(5-20). Withstood another terrible shooting night vs PHI because they are terrible (8-22).
tied for lead league in turnovers with James Harden. Like Harden, could be upper echelon with better shot selection.

Best? No.
2nd best? Absolutely. Dude is insane.
He'd be the best right now if Steph Curry would quit cheating and flipping over to God mode every night

Steph Curry. He is the epitome of a pure basketball player. Has won an MVP, a championship.
Westbrook is a good player, but he can't go anywhere without KD.
