re: If the Big 12 is snubbed again this year

Ohio State got in last year because they're Ohio State and the other two options were Baylor and TCU

Had very little to do with a CCG.

I think Pac 12 is most competitive conference. Kinda lame that they are essentially eliminated

Iowa was up by two scores late and Minnesota scored a late TD. Iowa ran out the clock next possession. How is that "almost beating Iowa"? Iowa was in control for most of that game. Not at all like Michigan who needed a big-time goalline stand to preserve the win.
Yes, but let's not act like Iowa was up by two scores the entire game--most of the time their lead was less than a TD. Iowa was up by 5 with two minutes on the clock and scored putting them up by two scores. Minnesota answered back and didn't get another chance.
Like I said, Minnesota almost won that game as at multiple points they were a single play for taking the lead very late in the game. Stop being butthurt about your average Big 10 team almost losing to a less than .500 opponent late in the season.

But why? If teams are supposed to be judged objectively, what would a Big XII CG have accomplished last year?

A stronger game at the end of the year would've helped Baylor or TCU, though it's hard to say that win would've been better regarded over Ohio State vs Wisconsin.
Considering they were talking about "zipper divisions" to keep things balanced (i.e. intermix the weak north teams with the strong south ones), it's possible TCU would've been Baylor's paired opponent and would've been rematching them for the championship.
Possible divisions:
Texas -- OU
Baylor -- TCU
Texas Tech -- Ok State
K State -- Kansas
Iowa State -- West Virginia

Exactly! A Big XII CG likely would've made no difference.

And still wouldn't necessarily fix anything. If Baylor wins, they beat the same team twice...big deal. If TCU wins, does that mean enough to overtake Ohio State?

nothing, just another chance for their best team to lose; wisconsin was also favored last year for the ohio state game (as i recall).
Big12 was extremely close to getting two teams in last season - how? by not playing a CG.

I'm not disagreeing with you. In some years it would help, and in some it would hurt.
Posted on 11/15/15 at 8:54 pm to TIGERSandFROGS
Same...I think we're mostly on the same page here. The crux of my initial post was that it's stupid for the conference to start adding schools who add little football value simply to get a CCG that may or may not help.

I'm with you. There's no obvious good additions. Louisville would've been nice, but that boat sailed.

Baylor at #5 defeated #9 Kansas State at about exactly the same time as OSU defeated Wisconsin...

And if that had been a 13th game of the year, they probably are getting in

They will pick up

looking at those two teams' schedules, Baylor and tOSU both had bye weeks on September 20th and in October. the Baylor/TCU game was on tOSU's October 11th bye, while tOSU beat Penn State on Baylor's October 25th bye.
but Baylor had another bye on November 15th, and tOSU won at unranked Minnesota 31-24 that day. you think that should have swung things?

Do I think an extra game could swing things? Yes

good thing you're not on the committee...
it's all about body of work. Baylor and TCU couldn't play a 13th game through no fault of their own
what if the "extra game" for tOSU had been their 66-0 rent-a-win over Kent State?

peasant logic.
13 games is meaningless when 1 or 2 of those are against FBS schools
