16+ years old. He was a great dog that earn his keep many times over. Pooch was a real laid back, loving dog. Bad part of this, 16 years ago, I wanted to just shoot his arse as a drop off. My daughter beg me not to do it.

My daughter is a Vet and she did the deed.

Sorry to hear this ... it's the crappy part of having a pet.

I dread the day that comes here.

He had a bad attach of vertigo about three weeks ago and we got him to pull thru it somewhat. Been feeding him boil chicken. That was all he would eat. Just knew it was coming.

This sucks.

So she put down the dog she had as a kid? Holy crap that had to be rough.

As someone that just lost a dog, you have my sympathies. It's pretty rough. Two weeks later and I still think about my dog daily. I caught myself fixing him a bowl of food the other day during feeding time out of habit. Having a few other dogs to take care of make it a bit easier though. Maybe you should go find a rescue or something to adopt after you have had a while to get over losing this one.

Sorry...had to do this 3 times already. Two dogs and my old cat last month. It doesn't get any easier if you get another one.

No kidding. That's the kind of thing that ruins a vet's day if it's just a regular dog.

Yes, the second one. Was very hard on her. She did a house call as she does for all my pups.

Man. Prayers for you and the family. my pup was at the doorstep to his 16th birthday when he died in my arms. I know the pain. Can't replace that love. Know that he's better off now and not struggling.

Fish, the love that we give our four legged family members is only matched by what they do for us with unconditional love. Prayers sent your way.

He was always and outside dog till last winter and told the wife it was time for him to come inside. When he had to go, he would let you know.

I have two other pups. They started barking when the oldman went down and they were locked up in another room across the house. My oldman passed very peacefully.

Thanks all, he will be missed.

It's terrible, I've been there several times. But never forget you had this living, intelligent creature who loved you no matter what, and you gave that dog a good life. Drink some good bourbon, and hang a picture of the pup on the Christmas tree this year.

16 years is a really long life for a dog. Both of you were blessed to have such a long-lasting kinship. Remember the good times and try not to wallow in the grief. Prayers sent.

When our Golden had to be put to sleep, it was probably harder on my dad than it was for us kids. She never changed, and never left for college.
