re: Would there be any interest in a board rewatch of a popular show?

Id be in on LOST for sure,
LOST is one of my 4 favorite shows ever but it doesn't lend itself to this. 6 seasons worth of shows that are 50 minutes each, with most seasons going 20+ episodes? Nah.
It needs to be something that doenst' feel like a chore.

-Obviously everyone has different schedules. Would we nominate one night a week to knock out several eps, or maybe pick a few nights a week to just watch 1 ep?
We could do it however, but with the Fringe thread, it worked pretty well to have weekly "assignments" of three episodes, updated every Monday morning. So for example, one Monday morning, I'd update the OP with the new episodes to watch for the week, and we would begin discussion on the previous episodes from the previous week.
Choosing a particular day would be tough to work out between everyone involved. So it works best on a week by week basis IMO. Plus, that gives everyone ample time to watch the episodes and be ready to discuss them starting Monday morning.
quote:
-Will there be a vote for the show?
Sure. Whatever the consensus is should work, as long as it's a show I'm interested in (and if not, then someone else can start the thread and take control).
quote:
-Will we have a "moderator" that gives a countdown on when we start each episode, so we're all watching at the same time?
This is an example of how the Fringe thread OP was set up:
quote:
On the menu this week:
SEASON FIVE!
Episode 7: "Five-Twenty-Ten: - A new videotape in the plan demands technology that William Bell kept hidden from the team. Happy to see her old friends, Nina Sharp helps retrieve the crucial elements. Peter works an independent angle against the Observers and scores a minor victory.
Episode 8: "The Human Kind" - The team uncovers another videotape and Olivia sets out to recover a large magnet from a clairevoyant woman. Windmark tracks Peter to Henrietta's apartment and is lead down a path to his future demise. Walter and Astrid determine that the device in Peter's head may not be removed if he evolves much more.
If you don't have time to watch the episodes, check out the Fringepedia pages for each episode...they do a great job of detailing and explaining everything that happens in the episode. Here they are for this week's episodes:
Five-Twenty-Ten
The Human Kind
Discussion on this next batch of episodes (which will be assigned next week) due to start Monday, February 2nd. Enjoy the show.
CURRENT DISCUSSION
Episode discussion begins on ~page 56 for the following episodes:
Episode 5: "An Origin Story" - The science team goes on the offensive when Resistance Forces apprehend an Observer and the powerful portal creating device he had with him. Astrid solves a critical puzzle that may turn the advantage to the Resistance forces. Peter makes a pivotal choice when he learns of the advanced technology each Observer has implanted.
Episode 6: "Through the Looking Glass and What Walter Found There" - Walter sets-out on his own after uncovering another tape and steps into a pocket universe sandwiched in the membrane between parallel universes. Observers converge on Walter's position and only Peter has the skillset needed to rescue the science team.
Fringepedia for these episodes:
An Origin Story
Through the Looking Glass and What Walter Found There
So every week I updated the OP. "On the menu this week" is the assignment of episodes to watch for the week, and I would always update the date that discussion for those episodes would start (the following Monday). "CURRENT DISCUSSION" is what is being discussed that week (since I always updated on Monday mornings).
So in the above example, we discussed episodes 5 and 6 of season five that week, and episodes 7 and 8 were what we are supposed to watch during the week and be ready to discuss the following Monday.
And looking back, because S5 was shorter than the others, and because we wanted to slow it down a bit and we didn't want it to end, we ended up switching to two episodes per week instead of three for season five. But for S1-S4, we were going at a three-episodes-per-week clip.
And Fringe had the Fringepedia website, which was pretty helpful...it was a wiki-like page detailing the episodes and what happened (and with questions and theories and shite), so even if you missed an episode, or couldn't remember what all happened, the site could tell you and you could still discuss. Not sure whatever show we choose would have that, but it may.

I'm in for The Shield or The Sopranos

3 episodes per week on fringe...did yall pick 3 nights and watch 1 ep each, or binge 3 episodes once a week?
Neither...it wasn't like that. You're focusing on watching the episodes live/together. This was a weekly thing. You just had one week to get all three episodes in on your own time. Discussion started Monday morning for that week's assignments.
See my post above.
Watching episodes live/together tends to generate VERY little discussion, and is usually simply relegated to reactions only (hence why most South Park threads are just laughing emoticons when the episode is actually airing...the other discussion doesn't normally come in until later).

down for Psych as well.
I almost just made a "Would anybody be down for a Psych or Wire rewatch?" thread, but ended up leaving it open-ended in case people had other suggestions.

Exactly. That is key.
Which is why we don't have to do three episodes per week if people wanted to only do two, for example.
Posted on 11/12/15 at 12:33 pm to CocomoLSU
I see. See I thought it was going to be realtime, so everyone is watching an episode all together at the same time.
Posted on 11/12/15 at 12:36 pm to WG_Dawg
Nah. Not only too difficult to coordinate, but threads like that are usually so fricking stupid and are full of emoticons and emotional reaction posts.
shite, just check out a Saints/LSU game in-game thread. They're terrible.

I've never seen The Sporanos either
I could be coaxed into a discussion group about The Sopranos, The Wire or The Shield.
I had decent luck with the first season of Star Trek, but we lost a bunch of folks and I was talking to myself by the end of the Season 2 thread - so we didn't finish it.
Boardwalk Empire just wrapped - I do mean to go back and finish it, I just lost momentum somewhere in the middle. It is intriguing enough.

And it wouldn't even have to be a "serious" show. I was thinking that something like Psych or even a show like Scrubs could be cool/fun to do (although those shows naturally lend themselves to less discussion than more serious shows that are plot driven). FYI, my #1 choice for this would likely be The Wonder Years, but those seasons aren't really available (without having to torrent or something like that).
I don't want to tell you your business, Cokes, but none of those shows are going to work as an episode-by-episode discussion. There are just too many episodes and most are throwaway.
I mean, if you got a show like M*A*S*H (maybe), WKRP, SOAP or Newsradio - but, even then, I would suspect it is doomed to failure.

Battlestar Galactica is another that came to mind, except that I've never seen it (but could be willing to do it for a board rewatch).
I just finished season 1

No I agree with you for the most part. "Serious" shows definitely lend themselves to more/better discussion for sure.
IMO the main problem is time...most people don't want to invest that much time to something, especially when it's not at their own pace. The Fringe thread was up and regularly active for about nine months. That's a long time. The tripod (plus jamsmiley) stuck it out to the end, but I assume even if more people would've participated, they wouldn't have done it week to week like we did; it's just too much of a chore to dedicate that much time to watching a TV show for some people (and understandably so).

I've heard good things about Firefly
It's 44min long and there are only 15 episodes total. It wouldn't be a "re-watch" bc I've never seen it.
Firefly is GREAT. But it's too short for something like this. You can knock out Firefly in a couple weeks (or less) if you wanted to.

Let me say this - if you wanted to take a show like Seinfeld - and had a "Top 20" or "Top 30" episode discussion, laid out the schedule and watch order in advance - I think that might be doable. Seinfeld is on Hulu now, so it is fairly widely available.
And I disagree with you on the "inexplicably cancelled shows" - the most notable of which, for me, are Firefly and Freaks and Geeks - it would not be a thread that carried on for months and months - which would be its charm. Firely - 2 episodes per week - 2 months you would be done. Ditto for F&G.
Those shows are worth watching over and over.

I've never seen firefly either but have always wanted to.
Also for convenience's sake, I suggest we pick a show that's on netflix.

i've never seen Battlestar Gallatica. We Would have to buy season Blue rays/dvd's i dont think its on netflix or amazon prime

Not Lost - just watched again about 6 months ago. Need to let it sit for awhile.
Battlestar, Smallville, Star Trek, maybe the X-Files, would be cool. Any sci-fi/fantasy stuff is cool.

While I would agree with you in principle, HBO is exclusive to Amazon Prime and HBOGo - so - it would be tough to do some of the best shows ever - particularly M/TV board favorites The Sopranos and The Wire.
