This is not a bash Harris thread. I really think he is a great talent that has lots of potential, he also has an NFL arm with NFL deep accuracy. However, his weakness is the consistency. Not efficiency; consistency.

Watching any other game this year, you can see that Harris throws a pretty ball, usually deep bombs. We have lots of exciting completions, even in the game last night. But what happens when it's a 3rd and 5, or just the beginning of a drive? He can't make that short throw. What I mean is that I don't get the same safe feeling of converting that I did with Mett or just a game manager QB. This weakness has been covered up in previous games because when defenses stack the box, he may hit a long touchdown which will scare the opposing defense long enough to back off for Fournette.

But Alabama played it perfectly. He hit a couple of deep balls, but they didn't take the bait. They basically stayed close to the line and said, "Sure you got one or two good ones, but I bet you can't hit that five yarder next play."

Now, thinking back, I don't think Harris has ever just driven the ball down the field by getting multiple first downs. He's just a homerun hitter today. He still has plenty of time to become better short game-wise, but that's all he is today.

I'm not bashing, this is what we have and I love our team. I think we are very good, just got out coached last night. We are still good, let's keep cheering for our boys!

Let me know if you agree, I could be completely off.

TL;DR

We already knew he couldn't complete a pass inside 15 yards. Killing the pass game after the INT was one of many retard coaching decisions last night.

Probably right, but Bert Jones would have had trouble last night.

Harris was getting pressured like an 18 year girl getting pressured to give up the puss on prom night last night. And he's still 100X better than Jennings!

On the flip side, how well of a gameplan did Kiffin come up with?

Easy 5 yard outs that WR's could turn up the field and get YAC off of.

Slip screens.

Quick screens, with OJ Howard blocking cornerbacks.

I mean, Kiffin got their playmakers the ball in space off of easy completions to get his QB in rhythm.

I agree. We, the fans, see this so surely the coaches do too. Don't they work on the short passing game in practice? BH can throw a beautiful deep ball, but he struggles with short passes over the middle, quick slants, and crossing routes, and he doesn't seem to be improving in that area.

Harris is progressing very rapidly in his development and is one of the top quarterbacks in this conference. He's still in his second year of the program and playing the most difficult position in the most difficult system in CFB.

He'll get there, but he's not going to single-handedly win games for us at this time. Fournette and the OL simply got beat by the best front seven in CFB last night and that's about all there is to it.

Consistency comes with repetition. Not just in practice but more importantly in games . The coaching staff should have been giving him short throws and throws to the backs all season. They never did. All of a sudden you think it will happen against Bama?

Yes. This is the kind of thing that improves with actually throwing the ball in games.
