What to make of the Pelicans 0-4 start?

I haven't watched a second of the Pelicans yet this season. I know they are banged up. But how much is Gentry to blame? I know that 0-4 teams generally do not make the playoffs. What is the outlook for the remaining 78 games?

Jrue still injured/minute restriction. Reke out for atleast another month. Asik coming off of injury. Ajinca coming off of injury.
All of this with 2 of the losses being against Golden State and a new coach/scheme?
WAY too early to panic.

They are missing key players. Would be much better with Tyreke. Still, the offense looks sloppy and I don't like the way they use Davis.

The better question is why the hell are they always injured?

To add to this, I really question whether the bottom half of the West's playoff picture is as tough as it was last year. In other words, I'm not sure the 8 seed needs 45 games to get in like last year. But time will tell.

Gentry made some putrid decisions last night, and I think they putting way too much on Anthony Davis while not even bothering to run sets to get him open. It was glaring when they got within 8 or so of the Magic last night, and he didn't sub in his starters when the Magic did. The score immediately bloomed back up to double digits and that's all she wrote.
It looked like Anthony Davis had no idea if he was supposed to be a stretch 4/5 or go to the bucket. He was hesitant, and just does not look comfortable in the scheme. It doesn't help that there are some serious dog shite players out there with him.

Defensively they are absolutely horrible right now. Need Asik and Tyreke back before that signficantly improves tho, including a 100% healthy Holiday.

I think Gentry's system is very dependent on solid guard play. We have essentially have Gordon, who hasn't been terrible, but also hasn't been lighting the world on fire or anything, and a very limited Jrue Holiday. Jrue has looked okay, but he can never get in a rhythm because he is doctor limited to like 5 mins a quarter at most.
We are getting killed because a lot of our guard minutes are being taken up by guys who: A) suck, and B) didn't have the benefit of the offseason work outs and training camp to learn the system.
When the guys on the floor are all guys we had during the full offseason and training camp, we don't look nearly as bad. Unfortunately we are unable to keep that lineup on the floor for very long.

This is what I want to know. Does any other NBA team always have as many injuries as the Pels. Seems like year in and year out we are having to manage dealing with multiple injuries with key players. You'll never win anything when you are constantly fighting the injury bug.

Rockets were crippled by injuries last year.

There has been legit questioning of the medical staff.

Banged up is an understatement. Missing 50% of the normal rotational minutes. The guys behind that 50% are banged up. We are rolling out D-League crap for heavy minutes a game. They aren't good enough to play in Gentry's system. Lazy getting back on transition defense. Teams are sticking to Davis like glue. The looks the team is getting this year are MUCH better, but we have no confidence or swagger right now. Attempted 36 threes last night and practically every one of them was wide open. No dribble penetration. This roster is very top heavy. When 4 of the key 8 are out, the back end just isn't very good.

This. Also don't the Pels and Saints share medical staffs? Interesting that both franchises have brought in players with injury problems that didn't get caught in their physicals.

We have been really bad defensively but we have been really bad offensively. It's not a good combination. Being bad at everything

AD looks like fricking Nerlons Noel in this shitey offense. Future isn't looking too bright. Say what you want, but Monty made nice adjustments with the shite players he was given after all of our key players were injured. Gentry hasn't done that yet. Soft arse players.
