re: Hiring a coach with a losing record

82 games may seem like a lot, but in the west every game counts. If we get behind 7-8 games in the West we are in for a long season.
While 0-2 might not be terrible relative to the whole season, we are still 2 games back already. I didn't think we would win at GSW but I thought we would have been more competitive.
Last night was down right embarrassing. Professional Athletes just gave up 70 points in a half. It looked like Park ball out there and Portland was just playing with us.

it happened to the thunder last season. just need to sit at .500 or maybe 2-3 games below until january when the team is (hopefully) full strength.

But now we have people who literally dont understand the implications of NBA basketball. There are 82 games. 82. We always knew these first months worth of games were going to be...tough.
Gentry has had 3 winning seasons out of 12 head coaching stops. I understand that some of those were on a interim basis but good grief his winning percentage is 47%. I only hope we see Anthony Davis continue to shoot 3 pointers.
Please tell us more Baghdad Bob. Everyone please continue to ignore the losing we're really winners in the eyes of Dell Demps, Alvin Gentry and a bunch of Kool-Aid drinkers.

I sure hope we can. It doesn't look promising though.
Frick this minute restriction with Jrue, on non B2B nights he better be playing 25-30 minutes from here on out. We are a completely different team when he is on the court.
You also have to think about the Fans. We have to win Saturday or the whole city is gonna jump ship. New Orleans has grown to be a fickle city that just wants to see winners. I fear a bad start will just kill all the momentum this team has been gaining.

If Gentry doesn't turn this around quick, it could poison this franchise. A coach who the players respected and loved was fired after taking a big step forward. Aside from the amount of shite the team will catch from the media, it could be an issue inside of the locker room. Uncle Al plays Drake at practice, though.
IMO, it's impossible to draw any meaningful conclusions are make any predictions two games into an NBA season for any team. That's especially true for a team with a new coach and system. And, yeah, the injuries are pretty significant.
Am I disappointed in the performance last night? Sure. Do I think it necessarily thing it portends a shitty season? No way.
Let's just see where we are in a few weeks.

And you continue to ignore that 45% of the players that should be getting minutes are not. If the players we've played the last 2 games were the ones we'd be playing all year then sure we'd be in trouble. But that hopefully will not be the case.
Why is it so hard for people to be patient and accept that maybe we don't have enough relevant information to pass judgement yet?

The only thing I'm furious and disappointed about is losing the 82-0 record. Guess we have to settle for 80-2 now

Why would you expect otherwise on any TD board.

The Cavaliers.
They play in the East. They could make the playoffs over there with 30 wins. They aren't worried.

Its one thing to lose the first two games.
Its another thing to get OBLITERATED and look absolutely lost, clueless, terrible in the first two games. And the team we lost too last night will not win a lot of games, most likely.
I'm going to let it play out, but I already didn't like the Gentry hire. I'm concerned. I know we are missing key players, but that's no excuse not to play hard. Not to hustle. Not to have some semblance of defense.
They look disinterested, lazy, and pathetic so far.

Literally game 2 out of 82.

At least acknowledge that we actually dominated most of that second half last night. If we start out slow as frick again on Saturday I'll be concerned but I think they started to figure it out in the 3rd quarter last night. We just had already dug too deep of a hole.

Sucks, my wife came in around the start of the 2nd half and asked if we could watch American Horror Story. Didn't think it was worth saying no, so I missed the only watchable part of the game.

Houston too

The only 2 players that haven't looked hesitant have been Ryno and Ish, maybe Perkins as well. Why that is I'm not sure, but I think lack of comfort in a new system makes more sense than most of the team is now lazy or has started tuning the new coach out 2 games into the season. The thing that I found most exciting about Gentry is that he looks like he would adapt rather than force square pegs into round holes. 7 seconds or less isn't what made me give him a chance. So hopefully a combination of coaching adjustments and players getting healthy can right the ship.

ATL, any new info on when Cole is set to return? Ish jacking up 14 shots is no bueno. Thx.

We hovered around +15 to +18 in the second half until the Blazers hit a bunch of shots with around 3 minutes to go. Actually got the deficit down to I think 8 after back to back 3s from AD.
Defense looked a lot better too, a lot less confusion on when to switch, actually had some pretty smart defensive plays to choke out McCollum and Lillard for much of the second half.

I'll acknowledge that I turned it off at halftime and went to bed. Looks like we outscored them by 9 points. Yippee.

Front line depth. Suspended Dwight, no D-Mo. Relying on a front line of Capela, Jones and Harrell last night. We will be better with Dwight but Golden State is going in dry Friday. They may not lose a game at home this year.
