Texas 7th Grader Says Teacher Forced Students to Deny Existence of God

A Katy seventh grader has some strong accusations.
She says her teacher asked the class to deny God exists.
Jordan Wooley says it all happened during a class assignment and now the school is apologizing.
Katy ISD says the teacher that came up with the assignment is distraught, and on Tuesday the principal determined the assignment wasn't something that was necessary for students. But it's still not sitting well for Wooley.
Wooley originally answered the question 'there is no God' in two ways.
"I said it was fact or opinion," said Wooley, adding she answered that way because "based on my religion and based on what I think and believe, I do not think it was a common place assertion."
Wooley says her seventh grade reading teacher at West Memorial Junior High School said both her answers were wrong and that she had to admit God wasn't real.

If you read the whole article, it was actually a decent critical thinking exercise but surely the teacher knew she was playing with fire. She also should have never let the conversation go that far with 7th graders.

more apologizing

It was a dumb, ill-advised lesson on the difference between fact & opinion.
So much hyperbole!

Yeah I'm calling bullshite on this one.
If the internet has taught me anything it's that the two shittiest kinds of people are believers and atheists.
Agnostics suck too.

and my 9th grade Biology teacher skipped the chapter on evolution because he said it was wrong and we were all created by God

if this true, then the teacher needs to be reprimanded. Or better fired.
Its like when my texas hs teacher (12th grade) told everyone to go to her church. She gave Bs/Cs to those she thought weren't christian enough, including myself. She told me I was going to hell. That shite is disturbing to young minds.
The only B I made in English in my entire academic career (elementary, Jr High, HS, college) was in her class.

And I was under the assumption that God talk was completely off limits in schools.

I had something similar happen to me.
In LSU freshman chem class, our professor, former dean or chancellor of LSU (can't remember his name now), was out the week of the Bama game. He had another professor fill in that happened to be a bama grad. He edited the test and the last question was "Write 'Roll Tide!'"
So obviously I wrote frick bama and got the question marked wrong. Pretty traumatizing experience. We won the game though, so all in all not too scarring.
