Can we stop shitting on the guy because he might be redshirted. A decision that is not determinant of his abilities as relates to others in his position.

A decision to redshirt a player is based on a number of variables. Two of the last 3 Heisman winners were redshirt freshmen. You think the guys who played their positions the year before were better? You think they lacked talent because they were redshirted?

For the fact that ducre is 240lb and runs a 40 in the upper 4.4 to lower 4.5 range i thought we'd see some of him this year

In no way was I "shitting" on him in fact I stated otherwise. it's just fairly absurd how many threads get started about him on here when he's redshirting. He may have a great career and I hope he does.

I think Ducre despite being there in the Spring got beat out my Mouton for the back up FB position

Ducre spent most of the spring at RB. He made the full-time move to FB in the Summer after Guice and Brosette made it to campus. Mouton was FB all the way. His skill set is perfect for the position and could go down as the best FB ever at LSU. I'm just waiting till they start putting the ball in his hands. Another potential weapon in the upcoming games.

Since Ducre has not yet played in a game, unless there are large #s of RB's and FB's injured in the last half of this season, it looks like he will indeed be red-shirted.

There were earlier posts mentioning how it might not be a bad idea to take a look at him at LB'er, since there are depth concerns there. However, that position seems to be addressed well in recruiting and there is a good chance that four or five LB's will be signed next February.

I hope that somebody on the coaching staff can figure out a way to utlize Ducre's outstanding athletic ability and let's get him on the field a lot in 2016!

No.

He played RB in high school and always had the ball. He has to learn how to play fullback first. Not ready yet.

Can we hold on the ducre name drops and threads till the guy touches the field? I've never seen a guy hyped more on this site who didn't get on the field than David ducre

That's beyond short-sighted... just started watching LSU this season??? The list ahead of Ducre is IMMENSE.

He is nowhere in the realm of Valentine, Jamarcus (redshirt), or PERRILLOUX (redshirt)... just to name a very prominent few.

BINGO!!! We have a winner...

We saw so much of Ducre in the spring because all we had on scholarship at RB was Fournette and Williams. Now, I liked what I saw of him in the spring and hope the best for him being very successful and seeing the field as soon as possible. Just no immense need at this time, regardless of how talented he may be.

Ducre was a RB in high school, so FB is a pretty new thing to him.
Star running backs in high school DO NOT want to play FB and block in college.

Most would rather go play at a smaller school if they could continue to play RB and carry the football.

LSU coaches better watch out with Ducre or he'll wind up transferring.....................

I tend to agree. I think he will play both FB and RB but redshirting him gives us added flexibility if we don't sign White at RB this year.

Takes way way more than that.

There are too many things to consider when deciding if a guy should play or redshirt.

Plus, red shirting is a GREAT thing. They learn the playbook, get mature physically etc.

Tom Osborne used to redshirt as many offensive linemen as he could to get them prepared for the next four years. It worked out pretty well for him. Fifth year seniors are great to have on any team.
