I think the NCAA has to deny his request to go through with it.
Didn't they already say he could do it? They're not gonna take that back, surely.
And to the other guy, an Auction is an attempt to get the most money for an item, you dont simply settle because someone offer you a nice payout. Why would they do that?

They need to just put this idea in ice. They already got sued for using player likenesses on ducking video games. Why would they jump in and do this?
Very gracious for LF to offer, but I feel the ncaa will decline because of scum who would sue them for making money off of a single players name.
I hope I'm wrong. But its such a slippery slope and now every player will try to do this each week to get more heisman attention.
Bugs is sincere, now come the copiers

Ugh except LSU auctioned off its Katrina jerseys several years ago, correct?

I've got an actual LSU jersey #7 that was Ali Highsmiths....no name on the back. I wonder if I put on ebay if some dufus would pay a ton for it thinking it's Fournette's

I watched a guy at a golf tourney buy an LSU golf bag (that he donated) at auction for over $10K and then donate it back to be re-auctioned. This thing will go for way more than $10K. I put it more at $50K. There is a lot of people with a lot of $$$ out there and most of them would love that jersey in their man cave and its a good way to find a right off for them.

The difference is getting permission to do it before doing it.. This doesn't open up anything.. They reserve the right for approval. Whatever you are referencing was done without their approval

Everyone seems to have forgotten the whole intent of his gesture and care more for the jersey. Plus I don't see it going for more than that.

It's not only Fournette's Jersey, it also represents the last game Steve spurrier coached.

You wanna bet? I'm no champion for the NCAA, but where would Fournette be without them and LSU football? Fournette certainly has value to LSU, but LSU certainly has value to Fournette.
This is the basis for all economic transactions, and confirms the main point - LF has value as do all collegiate athletes. A fair system would reward those that are most in demand, unless we agree that demand/supply economics are a band thing.

Exactly. People downvoting or speaking against the article are missing the point of it.

The cost and time if setting up an auction which would have to include other items would cancel out any money made. I don't see this jersey being auctioned off by LSU to the public
Your kidding right. A 10 year old could handle that. Or just ask a auction company to handle it free, it's charity remember.

Your statement is true, and it is why the players would argue the exchange needs to be collectively bargained

Agree that the NCAA is in a precarious position, but it's so passe to pile on. It's an awkward system but it's really for the best. People who want to change the eligibility rules could end up destroying college sports.

99% of collegiate athletes provide negative value for universities.

Yep. No one is saying that we have to pay the athletes, the article simply points out the NCAA for the hypocrites that they are.

False

Buzz words-based strawman. Pro sports generally don't operate in a free market system anyway. If we are to apply this logic as purely as possible, Feleipe Franks should be paid, as he provides value to his HS program.

Does anyone know when then actual auction is? I keep seeing discussions like this, but nothing on the actual auction.
Posted on 10/13/15 at 12:04 pm to Cap Crunch
When/where is this thing going to be auctioned off? I'll open the bidding at $5
Posted on 10/13/15 at 12:08 pm to south bama tiger
The more we hype this thing, illegal, legal. The higher the value goes. This is the "legendary" Fourneete donated jersey. uwwweew. Get you some! This thing gonne be priceless.
