More shotgun and pistol formations now?

Maybe going to have to diversify this offense now with Moore out. Not saying it's a good thing because we need the power run game out of the I. It's our bread and butter. I'm sure Mouton is going to step up but he is a true freshman and not the lead blocker that Moore is. But it may mean that more players will get more involved in the offense. Or maybe not.

the offense has been more diverse since the start of the season, further diversity will continue to come as Harris gets more comfortable with passing calls, not because a fullback got hurt.

Wouldn't mind seeing Harris with Fournette and Guice in the gun together or pistol. I would personally love to line Guice up in the slot and have him run a crossing route and throw quick screens to him more. He attacks space quickly will make big plays.

Moore being out is still just a rumor. That's why that thread got whacked.

Man seeing Fournette and Guice line up in 5 wide was beautiful.
Harris threw to Fournette 5 times Saturday.
The offense looked really good, quicker paced, and modern.

Mouton played great against USC.
He was a very good, and highly recruited, tight end at Acadiana. He can catch and block. Kid can play.

If you saw Mouton play at Acadiana the. You know he's one hell of an athlete at fullback. Can Cameron has compared him to his former All-Pro FB Lorenzo Neal.

Maybe it is the formation that we seem to go to over and over, but we dont "need" the I formation. It makes teams put 8 men in the box against it because 90% of the time we are just going to pitch it to Fournette. Fournette would be unstoppable in a full on spread attack, he would put up 300-350 a game, easily. So no we dont need that outdated crappy offense. You can put the FB in on shotgun plays as an upback and still use him as a lead blocker and it is still a power formation, but with the defense spread open more, it is basically the I formation, it just gives the illusion that it could actually be a pass. Rocket Science

Ok Tiger Nation 84! I'm sure you know more than the paid professionals at the helm.

Never said I know more, but all you have to do is watch, its not hard to see defenses put 8 and 9 in the box vs our I formation, and soread out when we go into shotgun/pistol/spread...

What is Moore's condition?

we ran like a beast even without him..
i hope he comes back very soon though because he's a tremendous player and we enjoy his play.

I realize that formation and philosophy aren't the same thing, but our line isn't cut out for a "spread" attack, at least in the traditional sense. They are big and physical. They are all pretty athletic for their size, but there is a reason that spread and spread option offenses usually recruit smaller, faster linemen.
Again, the Tigers run some spread formations and implement some of the concepts, but like it or not, this team is built to power run. So, the I isn't going away. However, you see a LOT more flexibility in how the staff is using it this year. We see personnel groups with Williams at FB, where he is a legit threat to get the ball. The staff can do the same thing with Mouton, thanks to his athleticism. Both can also run routes and catch the ball, as well as Fournette and Guice. This balance and ball distribution will help keep defenses off balance. Last year, we were so situational with the RBs that defenses had a very good idea what we were doing when someone checked in.
We are also seeing a lot more 3 WR sets out of the I, and 2 WR unbalanced sets. Those are particularly challenging for the defense now, because we are regularly throwing the ball to the TE. Do you keep 3 LBs out there to deal with Fournette? Can they cover Fournette or our TEs in the pass game?
I understand the complaints with the I based on last year. However, that is verifiably changing. Yes, we are going to see the toss dive out of it more than anything else, but the staff is diversifying enough to create big plays off that expectation. If the staff can force defenses to play a little more honest based on the threat of passing effectively out of the I, then the FB becomes an advantage in a more open box rather than a 95% indicator that we are running the ball.
