The fiance and I currently rent a house in Baton Rouge. Don't love it here and we are looking to get outside of the city.

Denham is on the radar as a possibility - found a house there that we really like in a pretty good school district.

Here are the questions I have.

1. What is life like in Denham Springs?

2. Anyone who has moved from BR to Denham and their experiences.

3. Any random advice that you have, I'm welcoming.

Thanks in advance!

It's Utopia with a sprinkle of meth and a dash of redneck.

Get used to sitting on I-12. It will be your second home.

DS is NOT what it used to be....but despite what 90% of the peeps will say on here, it's still a great place to raise kids.

I'd even recommend getting out to Watson or between Walker & Satsuma.

Moved form DS to BR...then back to Denham.. I don't drive to work in BR so it's a whole lot better for me.

Problem number one.

pretty good school district

So you and your girlfriend are going to rent a house in LP and pump out some illegitimates? Don't let the door hit you.

See above. So, what do you and the old lady do for work here in BR?

I moved to Watson, just outside of the Denham limits, from Kenner in 2010. I love it. The traffic used to be the biggest issue but the expansions of I-12 and Magnolia Bridge have helped a lot. Yes, there are lots of trashy people. I am very pleased with the schools and the area. Virtually no crime and no thugs.

Are you comfortable with rednecks? Are you a redneck? Do you like to see what happens when you mix white people with methamphetamine? Does it bother you when a trip to the convenience store feels like the fall of Western Civilization? Do you like when every fifth girl you meet is named Krystal, Crystal or Cristal? If so, Denham Springs is the place for you.

Oh shite now I've done it....

Not much to look at... kinda an ugly town and yes there are the white trash, but...

It's a good place to raise a family... most of the people here are typical middle class families. The schools are great and are constantly being updated/expanded, there are nice sports facilities and organizations and plenty of respectable subdivisions to choose from.

Just stay out of the Walmart and you'll be fine.

I-10, I-12 it's all the same at certain times.

Leave early and stay late (or leave early both ways)

Denham isn't as bad as the jokes make it to be. Sure, there are some really classic rednecks (and worse) but as long as you don't move in directly adjacent to a trashy trailer park (actually there are some that borderline on acceptable, in terms of trailer parks anyway), you will be fine. Its a lot more quiet and safe than BR.

I-12 traffic isn't really that bad. Give it another year and it will be better.
